Title: Collingwood Season 2015
Post by: ossie85 on April 05, 2015, 05:55:51 AM

Great win on the road last night in a match I thought we'd struggle in

Personally impressed by White and Crisp

Victory against Brisbane always a good thing

Very good start by our boys. Lots of positives and our resolve to hold in there at the end was fantastic. Also liked Crisps game, but I was most impressed by Taylor Adams who played his best game for the club and really stood up in Beams' absence

Personally disappointed though that De Goey didn't get much of a run when we really needed his extra spark and pace (especially when the game seemed dead and blokes were tiring) and it sucks to see that Sidey will be out for 4-6 weeks just like he was last year.

Adelaide at home this week, not confident at all after their showing against NM but we'll hopefully give it our best shot.

Did Reid play this week??? Could he come in at all?

I don't know a lot about thumb injuries but I'm assuming Sidey will be able to train as per normal (excluding contact and ball drills)

So does he just do another preseason?

I assume so mate, and we saw last year after his mini preseason (4 weeks off) he came back and absolutely killed it while others were starting to fatigue and slow down.

I'm thinking I'll jump straight back on when he returns, or plan to do so during the byes.

Sorry Mr. Crisp... it's not like it is complicated. DON'T BET ON THE AFL. What, you want a day seminar explaining what not to do?

Example of agenda for 'Don't gamble' seminar:

9:00-9:15am - Meet and greet, coffee/juice provided

9:15am-9:16am - Seminar on 'Don't gamble on AFL matches'

9:17am - Meeting close.

I like to drink my coffee slowly so would need more than 5 minutes.

So a bad loss to Adelaide with a strong rebound win against St. Kilda.

Still not sure where we at - 4th? 8th? 12th? I'm still leaning towards 7-10 as our finishing spot.

Swanny might be a dark horse for a 2nd Brownlow though! Looks to have found his freedom again

We are missing alot of depth from our midfield currently, maccaffer, sidebottom, greenwood, thomas, Adams (missing rd 3), Kennedy, young and also Sinclair and Reid

Still think we are about about a 12th placed side fellas. It's going to be a long year.
I really wish toovey could kick. Broomhead is exciting as hell.

All these Dangerfield rumours, thoughts? I would prefer to spend the money on trying to get Treloar and Aish rather than dangerfield, but obviously would not complain if danger chooses pies. Would probably enjoy not being first tagged for the first time in a long time

How about Seedsman though? 850m gained and 14 inside 50's

Nearly 400m more than the next best and 8 more inside 50's, think they are both a very telling stat, and hopefully he continues from here because he really could be absolutely anything if he works hard enough

Some people are trying to discredit Malthouse 2010 by suggesting it was Buckley's idea. This troubles me. Malthouse was a fantastic coach for us.

Buckley is going along nicely though, and he's just about the most impressive coach when speaking

Our team is really performing well
-the backline is working together and doing there roles
-the midfield is holding up, considering we are missing greenwood, side bottom and Macaffer
-we are also getting an even spread of goal kickers

Anyone else can't stand Jesse White? Can't wait for Witts to come in and displace him... Gault may not mark it that often but he always brings the ball to ground in front of him which is awesome. White looses the ball over the top and the opposition get possession nearly every bloody time

Spot on. What a load of shower - like him or not, MM took us to our 15th flag having started at the absolute rock bottom. Easy to forget the struggle of the 90s after he turned us around and set us up for our current success!
If you're going to blame anyone for Mick leaving to Carlton, turn your gaze towards old Eddie. He's the one who set up the 'succession' which was flowered by us actually winning a flag the year before the supposed 'changing of the guard.'
For the club to be so stubborn and not be flexible enough to make amendments was really disappointing. No way in hell was Mick going to play second fiddle to anyone, particularly not a bloke he coached a few years prior.

Not taking anything away from Buckley and what he's achieved - I love both Mick and Bucks and what they've both contributed to the club over the past decade or two.
Title: Re: Collingwood Season 2015
Post by: ossie85 on May 06, 2015, 07:59:20 AM

I still have no real issue for the succession plan, although Malthouse deserves most of the credit in 2010, if we didn't have the succession plan we wouldn't have had Buckley as an assistant coach... who knows, this means we might not have won the flag that year....

So people say it destroyed our 2011 flag... but it might have helped out 2010... so I'm calling a draw at the very worst.

One thing that I love about our team this year compared to last year is that we seem to be playing more taller players

Oxley, Crisp, Karnezis, Gault, Seedsman, Pendlebury, Langdon, Grundy, Goldsack, brown, white, toovey,  cloke , frost
All 189cm or over. Who played last week

Last year near the end of the year we were roughly playing 9 players 189 cm or over, which we played 14 on the weekend

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-05-19/more-surgery-in-setback-for-magpie-macaffer?utm_medium=RSS

Quote
COLLINGWOOD midfielder Brent Macaffer's will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome knee as he recovers from a knee reconstruction.

The Magpies expect the operation to set his recovery back three to four weeks, but are hopeful the surgery will be minor.

Collingwood football manager Neil Balme told the club website that Macaffer had been struggling with his recovery from the ACL injury he suffered in August last year.

"They will have an arthroscope to see how it goes," Balme said.

"We're certainly not expecting anything too serious, but it will certainly hold him back."

I was fully expecting us to continue to run right over the top of them and win by 7 goals so I was pretty unhappy when they got back in front during the fourth quarter. We still have a lot of room for improvement. We've only played one match where we put in a four quarter effort. Our best footy is definitely good enough to see us play finals and I actually don't feel like we're that far off being a top four side. Building very nicely.

Good win over the Giants on the weekend. I expected a closer result though it may well have been if they hadn't copped so many injuries. Still, I thought we played really well for the most part and we're well placed for the second half of the season.

Our next four games are going to be a real challenge. A fortnight ago I thought the match against Freo would be a likely loss but I think we're facing them at a good time and we might be a sneaky chance to topple them. Hawthorn are out bogey team so I think that's probably a loss and they're starting to hit some better form too. I feel somewhat confident about the matches against Port and West Coast. I'm probably being a little optimistic but I reckon we will win both of those and be no worse than 10-5 after round 16.

They would probably want a couple of players and an early pick I reckon.

Possibilities:
Fasolo, Ben Ken, Langdon, Marley, Sinkers, Broomhead, Gault?

Not really sure what GWS would want/need. Maybe a partner rebounding from defence for Shaw? A backup ruck for Mummy? (Not sure about their ruck depth). We'd really need to weigh up the damage to our depth/structure to see if it's worth it - particularly if they want Grundy or Witts... Not sure we can afford to let them go.

Treloar is a serious talent though, wouldn't want to let him slip if the chance is there!

750k a season is the offered price, compared to 550k from GWS, 6 year deal. Treloar at this stage likely to stay with Giants.

All on twitter fellas.

Please take Ben Reid... He's quality! ;) I assume Gault and Marsh would be on the trade table as tall timber bait. Don't think witts or grundy will ever be up for trade tbh. We would have to give up basically all our picks in the draft - and given the lack of depth in this years draft, that seems very possible.

they need a good young running defender and Fasolo can play multiple positions

i compare Treloar to Beams so i think the above is a similar deal to Beams

but i rated Crisp more then most before this year and has done well

I'd back him to consolidate - started like a house on fire and backed up after he returned from injury. Thumb is a concern, but for under 500 I personally think he's the best bet. Barlow could bounce back but Neale taking points there I think.

Sidey is the classic risk-reward pick, with the reward outweighing the risk at the moment. Get him in!

Edit: must state that I will be bringing in Beams/Mundy/Hanners most likely by using 2 trades

He's a risk of filling in down back, more useful in the middle as a link up player though imo. Seeds, Langdon, Marley and Ox more than capable of cleaning up in defence. Greenwood back soon will be interesting, Sidey is a better user though so shouldn't be too bad - plus he averaged 110 with Beams last year. Another minor concern is tough draw for a few weeks.

Safest bet would be a super prem 110-115 but Sidey worth a punt I think to save trades.

Its a bit early but which players do u guys think need to lift/improve or they'll either be delisted/traded at seasons end?

names that stand out are Dwyer, young, Armstrong, Karnezis and Gault. I'm also worried than kennedy may want to leave to enhance his playing opportunity. keefe/thomas may need to be delisted for room
Title: Re: Collingwood Season 2015

For WXV reasons I've been following Young pretty closely - he's cooked

Been ordinary in the VFL all season, I think I've seen his name in the best once and has hardly got a mention, at 29 and one of the senior players at the club if he's not playing in the AFL side he's just a waste of a spot on the list
Title: Re: Collingwood Season 2015
Post by: Toga on July 07, 2015, 03:53:16 PM
I'm a big Ben Kennedy fan and think he certainly might look elsewhere for more opportunity. Seems to be getting in the bests in the VFL pretty consistently but is struggling to get a look in the seniors given he'll come in as sub and get dropped pretty soon after. Hope he gets more gametime towards the end of the year!
Title: Re: Collingwood Season 2015
Post by: MC on July 07, 2015, 07:22:54 PM
Keefe and Thomas likely to be holding down a spot while suspended, not sure there's room for Young any more. Gault likely to stay unless someone makes an offer, Armstrong the classic depth player we might not need any more as well. Dwyer in trouble you'd think as well.

We've also got heaps of small fwd-mids running around, could offer one up I guess as a package to try for a free agent like Danger. Broomhead/Benken might be the one.

Would not want Suckling, he's as soft as butter and wouldn't have an ounce of knowledge on how to defend at all

What Collingwood needs RIGHT NOW is a big CHF who can have an immediate impact and just dominate games

I have no doubt that if we had another KPF with Cloke, the pies would be a top 4 side

I know we have Moore/Gault developing and Reid to come back but White/Witts/Grundy will not cut it against the best teams

No problems with our defence or midfield, but our forward line is where all the ?????? Marks lay

Do you write for the AFL?

Given the poor spelling, punctuation and grammar - i'd guess not! Timely post/article though.

Please guys, I've shared my displeasure about Jesse White before...please tell me you see how truly awful he is! He will forever be known as only potential, his assets on paper look far better than what is being produced week in and week out on the field.
With Cloke out, we need him to lead the forward line. It won't happen. Play Moore, as a future leader of the club, and someone who crashes packs, it gives us exactly what Jesse gives us + leadership. Gaulty can come in too, please anyone but Jesse.

On a different note, how good is Varcoe for us? He was outstanding and every week I like him more and more as a player and a person, what an incredible pick up!

He is struggling (as are we)

I'm glad you mentioned he crashes packs, as I feel that's definitely been his best asset for us. I hate how Cloke tends to hng back and try to go 1-out but ends up getting double or triple teamed. If we had a fully fit Elliott at his feet, we'd probably be singing White's praises a bit more.

Same mate, assume we had very similar ladder predictions then. Had us losing against WB so hope we can pinch a win.

Gault showed a bit earlier this year but I reckon it has to be Karny, who has had solid vfl form lately.

Would getting Dangerfield be the biggest name the Pies have got in since Buckley?
We don't bring in many A+ graders. :-\ respect to Jolly and Ball.

Danger? More likely to land Treloar by the sounds of it

Well glad that we brought Moore in. If Bucks wants to know my next suggestion, it would be dropping White, Kennedy and Maynard and bringing in Reid, Karnezis and Scharenberg. Blair needs at least 3 tackles next week to stay in the team. 0 tackles just isn't enough and his pressure was terrible.

At least if we finish low we will get a better draft pick

Will need it to nab treloar.

Also could get an easier draw next year which would be nice!

If they do it the same as this year...

1st to 6th is one group

7th to 12th is one group

13th to 18th is one group

So no difference in draw whether you finish 7th or 12th.... and I really hope we don't finish 13th or lower

That was quite painful to sit through. I'd love to be able to kick straight...last 3 losses we have kicked 7.14 then 10.16 then 7.12 for a total of 24.42 which is crazy bad. Obviously that is not our only issue but if we can get that under control, it's a start.

I didn't watch the game, but considering you had 9 more inside 50's I'm guessing a lot of those entries were rushed and didn't put you in a good position to kick goals

Yep certainly was an issue, but before the last quarter onslaught, we had 16 more inside 50s than them to 3QT. Within those chances there were a fair few you would expect AFL footballers to put away every day of the week

The worst thing has been the entries into the F50. Almost every midfielder has just bombed it in, hoping that one of Cloke/Reid/Moore will pull a miraculous mark out of their arse every time, so bloody frustrating!

He's had a pretty solid year and has played an impressive amount of VFL games for a rookie in his first year. Arguably a tad unlucky not to debut yet. I watching a lot of the younger guys from both the Richmond and Collingwood VFL teams really closely last week when they televised that game on 7.
