Title: Wimbledon 2015
Post by: PowerBug on June 29, 2015, 10:55:37 AM
Starts tonight, wooo. David Ferrer has pulled out, ending a run of 50 straight Grand Slam appearances. Got some Australians in the draw with high hopes. There's all the hype over Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic, but I actually think that Sam Groth is going to have a good tournament, Grass is his surface.

My picks:
Men's winner - Tomas Berdych
Women's winner - Serena Williams
Last standing Aussie Male - Sam Groth
Last standing Aussie Female - idk none will pass the 2nd round.

Got a few bets on!

Wawrinka @ $15 on William Hill (every time he wins a match get a $5 bonnus bet)
Djokovic on Ladbrokes (if he makes the final and loses get your cash back)
Serena on Ladbrokes (same as Djokovic bet)
Nishikori @ $51 with Sportsbet (just cause those odds were too juicy to resist)

Men's winner - Roger Federer
Women's winner - Petra Kvitova
Last standing Aussie Male - Bernard Tomic
Last standing Aussie Female - Stosur (but in the 3rd round is up 6-0, 5-0 and manages to lose)

Men's winner - Novak Djokovic
Women's winner - Agnieszka Radwanska
Last standing Aussie Male - Sam Groth and Bernard Tomic both out in round of 16.
Last standing Aussie Female - Samantha Stosur (same as what Jayman said)

Men's winner - who cares
Women's winner - Genie <3
Last standing Aussie Male - who cares
Last standing Aussie Female - Gajdosova (she's the only relatively cute one)

But best of all, Laura to BTFO Rodina tomorrow <3 <3

Newcombe and Woodbridge were the commentators pretty sure when I was watching.

@alizecornet: First round tomorrow not before 5:30pm on a court to be arranged....!?!?!?! Well, playing somewhere at some point @Wimbledon haha #findme
Hahahaha

Bloody hell Marinko, what a spud. 2 sets up in a grand slam AGAIN and he manages to screw it up. Probably the 5th time he's done that in round one of grand slams now.

Thanasi :'(

Hoepfully Groth and Ducky win their Round 1 matches, because then they'll play each other in Round 2 and then we'll definitely have at least one other Aussie in the third round (assuming Kyrgios makes it).

Firstly, amazing fact: I am part Scottish! Irish and German too.

Second, didn't Scots have that big vote to stay in the UK like last year?

Third and final, when have I ever played myself out as a huge Murray fan or anything? Mens tennis is for chumps tbh :P

I think to be an Aussie in Jukes' books regardless of where you were born you have to be called Steve Smith or John Millman to be an Aussie. A guy born in Japan and moved to Australia aged 19 would be Aussie if his name was Jason Mitchell :P

You gotta have at least one Aussie parent surely

So that rules out Kyrgios (Greek and Malaysia), Kokkanakis (all-Greek), and Rogowska (all-Polish) from those Grazzy mentioned, and I'm sure the others too (cbf looking it up)

Yep, and comfortably too.

Resident dickhead had another umpiring spat last night
Ana Ivanovic is out, Bethanie Mattek-Sands beat her
Kei Nishikori withdrew. Not sure what that was about

Groth vs Duckworth first up tonight, hopefully they show that match. Those two and Dellacqua are the only Australians playing today so I think they will show it :) Winner likely to play Roger in the 3rd.

I'd be a lot more comfortable getting behind Kyrgios if he wasn't such a flowerwit.

Nevertheless, we'll back him in to get the job done against Gasquet, but I can't see him getting past Stan.

Nothing much to talk about in the Ladies' draw, other than the fact that I hope it isn't whichever of the Williams sisters gets through. Getting around any of Sharapove, Wozniacki or Radwanska though.

What are everybody's thoughts on Dawn Fraser's comments?

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/28697559/dawn-fraser-sparks-nasty-feud-with-nick-kyrgios-family/

Quote
She told Channel 9's Today Show: "It's absolutely disgusting. I am so shocked to think that he went out there to play and tanked. That's terrible."

She suggested Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic should "go back where their parents came from".

“If they don’t like it, go back to where their fathers or their parents came from. We don’t need them here in this country if they act like that," she said.

It's very harsh on Tomic and Krygios but she has her right to an opinion, it's not racism as so many people are instantly labelling it.
Title: Re: Wimbledon 2015
Post by: PowerBug on July 07, 2015, 03:07:33 PM
Is it racism to tell someone to leave a country and go back to the country that their parents are from? I wouldn't have a clue I steer clear of that stuff :P

I think it's a little out of line and unnecessary, I also think Kyrgios and Tomic are spoilt brats though. That 2nd set last night was disgusting.

I hope Kokkinakis doesn't turn out like that :(
