Kerber struggled over the line.
Murray was very poor but still won in 3.
Halep lost, not really a huge surprise because this is Australia
the 2 flogs both won from Australia

It was a surprise. She spent Christmas and New Year in Adelaide with her coach and apart from last years Open, she broke through here.

It was a big surprise to see her playing so poorly, but considering she was injured it isn't unexpected.

They very day she won the US open I said she would never win a major again

Beyond overrated, but probably because she is the only Aussie female hope so she does carry a burden I guess

She made the semis of French last year. She's been super consistent and is the last Australian to win a Singles Grand Slam (As we've had some doubles wins). She's terrible in Melbourne but is still a top player and has been for many years.

the thing with me is I wanna go for him cos he's an Aussie. I'm not a massive tennis fan or anything but I'll always go for the Aussie. when he's not being a dick he's awesome to watch, but the smallest things seem to piss him off and then he cracks the showers like a little kid

I hope he wins but at the same time I won't really care if he loses

Fantastic news to wake up to a Kyrgios loss ha ha if it looks like an idiot and acts like an idiot and quacks like a idiot it's an idiot must be a product of bad parenting , I wish he would defect to whatever country his parents come from and he would disappear of our screens for good

Think it's a bit harsh to blame parents for Kyrgios. Maybe it was bad parenting, or maybe it's just that he's a dick. Blaming his parents is pretty low, and honestly, who wouldn't be a dick if you have a couple of million in the bank a 21?

In other news, Venus Williams called a gorilla again. What's wrong with people?

It is very possible it was bad parenting, however I don't believe it is, and as outsiders looking in we don't know that and it's quite rude to assume so. There are many cases where kids have been brought up by the best parents in the world and end up flogs, and where kids are brought up by flogs and become decent people.

I've reached the stage where I see Kyrgios on the tv and I turn it off, I am hopeful that in a few years he matures and actually reaches his potential.

Yeah, Kyrgios is a flog, but my point is that it's rude and inappropriate to bring his parents into him being a flog.

Went with gf, friend and niece and nephew yesterday (cause kids at $5 this year!). Was always going to be one of the first 4 days cause don't like the bigger crowd on weekend.

Got to see Dimitrov vs Chung which was a good match and that first set made us fans of Chung! Saw the last set of Raonic vs Muller while kids saw Monfils vs Dolgopolov instead. First time gf and friend came to Aus open and first time the kids were able to actually sit down for over 30 minutes to watch most of a match. Also saw Serena, Nadal and Monfils train though so we all left happy 8). I do recommend going first 4 days if anybody gets ground passes, always some nice matches around the place! Missed a few players I wanted to watch though (Barty/Dellacqua, Hingis/Coco, Simon, Gasquet, Cornet, Pliskova, Monfils in a match).

saw some video of that on twitter or similar and it wasn't malicious. it was similar to end of game, look away hit to get rid of ball still in pocket, up skirt for change of service ends, appeared to even hit it downwards into the ground at minimal force...not in anger at all and she apologised straight away... footage was just on the player...none of the ball or where it went but based on what I saw I believe she was innocent...if it hit the ball boy/girl then loss of point or warning may have been better but as I say the footage I'm basing my opinion on was lacking.

this article has footage...doesn't look bad at all, just an accident and it probably wouldn't have hurt much at all unless it hit in the eye or downstairs or something. As said above a loss of point/warning would've been a far better option, if not nothing at all because it was obviously an accident.

http://www.news.com.au/sport/tennis/australian-open/italian-player-disqualified-from-australian-open-for-hitting-ballkid/news-story/3786051ebf7139954d2f8c6adb06130f

this article has footage...doesn't look bad at all, just an accident and it probably wouldn't have hurt much at all unless it hit in the eye or downstairs or something. As said above a loss of point/warning would've been a far better option, if not nothing at all because it was obviously an accident.
100% agree the first time I saw it was some crappy footage which made it look like she turned around and smashed it to where she was standing. I believe it wasn't seen clearly by any official, as the reaction from the player with the follow through is the only thing that looks bad.

Just the title and how it being described makes it sound like there was intent to injure the ball kid which is absolute bs

I'd like to see two players that absolutely hate each other's guts to play against each other. All tennis players seem to have respect for each other and if they hate each other they certainly don't show it.

It'd be good viewing I reckon

Just 3 results away now from possibly the biggest game in the history of men's tennis. Just imagine the hype around Federer vs Nadal.

Please please please please please let it happen.

Agree but disagree, picked dimitrov as a smokey to win the open halfway through brisbane (paying 41 dollars woo)
and tbh i think hes got a really good shot tonight!!!

Rafa is 7:1 up on him however taking out clay matchs its 4:1!!!

Dimitrov won the only match they played in 2016 and before that every single hardcoourt match has gone to 3 sets (only are 3 setters) and theres no denying Dimitrov is in alot better form than those years when he was like 20-22 years old!! (and Rafa was likley number 1/2 in these times) I think its 50/50 but the betting odds certainly dont show that :P

Pressure of semi plays in Rafas favour though, lets see how dimitrov handles it :P

Cmon Dimitrov!!!!

Do not agree the Nadal/Dimitrov was rigged - One of the best tennis matches I have seen in recent years.  Great game by both players and one of those games where neither deserved to lose with the match point rally typical.

Just how much this nearly 5 hour match takes out of him remains to be seen although Federer also had a 5 set match but has had one more day to recover.

Hope the final lives up to the hype.

Federer last won an Aus Open in 2009, Nadal in 2010. It is different and totally unexpected!! It's 10000000x better than the Murray/Djokovic baseline bore fest that we were all expecting :)

Maybe the matchup is "new", but the players sure aren't - we've all seen them both a million times in grand slam finals. I'd have preferred a Dolgopolov-Raonic or Berdych-Thiem or Isner-Gasquet anyday :P

Its probably the last ever matchup of 2 legends of the game in for me the best rivalry of all time.

I want to watch legends battle it out ill watch those matchups in the 3rd and 4th round of any slam

100th time we've seen Nadal and/or Federer in a final, and that game wasn't even that good just each guy taking turns choking. 5/10 would prefer Raonic Berdych Gasquet even Wawrinka over these two guys we've seen a million times
