Champions: Golden State Warriors :(
Runner Ups: Cleveland Cavaliers
ECF: Cleveland Cavaliers def Boston Celtics
WCF: Golden State Warriors def Houston Rockets
ROY: Ben Simmons
MVP: Kevin Durrant (Lebron will deserve it once again)
DPOY: Kawhii Leonard
COY: Billy Donovan
MIP: Myles Turner
6th Man: Eric Gordon

not going for any big outsiders here as the regular season is pretty predictable in my books, i guess we will see.

Champions: Golden State Warriors (I hope not though)
Runner Ups: Cleveland Cavaliers
ECF: Cleveland Cavaliers def Boston Celtics (and it won't be close)
WCF: Golden State Warriors def San Antonio Spurs (in 7 games, giving people false hope that they'll be worn out for the Finals)
ROY: Lonzo Ball (Lakers bias)
MVP: James Harden (surely he's due)
DPOY: Rudy Gobert (with Hayward gone, expect the focus to further shift to defence for the Jazz)
COY: Gregg Popovich (as the Spurs get the 2 seed in a super tough conference)
MIP: Nerlens Noel (only massive darkhorse here)
6th Man: JR Smith (playing 32 minutes off the bench - more minutes than Wade)

Do people want me to move the Embiid conversation to this thread? Or leave it there and it can come up again naturally if that's what happens?

Not sure if his minutes are correct, but Embiid had 22pts 7rebs 3ass 1blk 14/18 ft's in 15 minutes.  :o

looks accurate guys a freak.

I kinda was going to put him MIP.

its not going to happen but if Embiid plays as many minutes as Lebron did last year and kept his numbers up he would have put up

30 points 16 boards 4 assists 2 steals and 5 blocks.

i certainly can see him going 25 12 2 1 3 though.

Watched a clip of his highlights and at one point he's saying something along the lines of, "these mofo's can't guard me".  ;D  AD still a bigger beast.

AD's injuries have brought him down a lot over the years and I guess the same thing is happening with Embiid too.  AD has put up some ridiculous numbers up over the past when fully healthy, and I'm sure we're going to see the same from Embiid soon (not just based off per numbers).  Got to play big minutes to put up huge stat lines which AD does, Embiid not...yet.

JoJo played a ridiculous game. They looked like complete a** without him out there in the middle of the first quarter. He came on and lead them on a 19-1 run to close out the first. 6'ers ended that run at 27-1 after Dario went nuts from outside in the 2nd. These two guys are very, very talented. It's only pre-season, but Embiid is showing why he is worth every single cent.

He also hit this after a foul was called.

So is Embiid on a minutes restriction or anything?  Will he miss games?  All for fantasy draft purposes, thinking of pairing him as my 2nd pick with AD as my first.  Custom cats and they favour big stats.

Post by: Mat0369 on October 13, 2017, 10:38:35 AM
10-14 minute restriction vs the Nets. Ended up playing 14.45 in the end. I'd expect him to start the season on a minutes restriction while he gets into game shape. I'd also expect him to be at around 28 minutes per night pretty quickly. That's what he was at last year before the knee.

Kyrie bringing them back from the dead.  I'm loving my Kyrie MVP bet @ $21 right about now.

not sure if haywood out helps or hurts you. It would help big time if they still get a top 2 seed. Im not sure they will despite how weak the east is.

LBJ is looking pretty good i reckon, should get the number 1 seed in the east now. The guy is looking like a rebound beast, i reckon he will top 10 boards a game this year. 25 10 8 with a number 1 seed is a pretty good case.

Kyrie clearly coming out to show he can play point guard and pass the ball. Not sure how long this will last though, no way he takes the 2nd most shots in his team many times this season.

Based on? Nobody is saying they are going to win a ring this year and it was all going to hinge on Embiid anyway.

Add to that they have played the the Wizards (expected to be one of the top few seeds), Celtics (same) and Raptors (three for three). They have been playing poorly and were still leading in two of the three games in the last. The only guys from last year that are getting significant minutes are RoCo, Embiid, TJ and Saric. TJ and Saric are also adjusting to coming off the bench instead of starting like last year so there is now an issue of gelling and finding what lineups work etc.

Raps just that good ;)

This. Raptors played ridiculously well. DeMar DeRozan was an absolute beast. They've been the best of the three teams we have played so far.

Weren't good with Embiid yesterday either ;)

That game was like who was the tallest midget. The Celtics were probably lucky to escape with a win. Both teams played like a**

NBA = Giannis  The ceiling on this guy is incredible.  When he incorporates the 3 ball in his game and his basketball IQ gets better, I think we're going to see a new King.  Watching him play against Lebron you could see that he's still young, the level of IQ Lebron has is nuts and once/if Giannis gets to that same level of IQ, watch out!  :o

Hating GSW more and more each day.  Curry ejected for throwing his mouth guard towards the ref...again...and then KD ejected for flipping the bird to the ref.  Day before Dray just shoves Boogie, get's T'd and then mouths off to the ref for ages, how he didn't get a 2nd tech I don't know.  Bunch of entitled little whiny doges who think they're bigger than the game.

Only "bright" side to the Hayward injury is that we're getting to see the ball in Brown and Tatum's hands much more now. Tatum is really smooth, he's going to be good.

just testing up lineups. its tough as they are essentially waiting for IT to come back.

Lebron is on fire but the pieces around him they are working out how they fit.

27 7 8 1 1 on 60% is pretty darn good.

I think this is being massively overlooked. He is shooting 15/17 from his FT. He said he was working on it, its way too early to call but that looks great. Also shooting 44% from 3.

The numbers wont stay that way but if he can drop 80% FT and 40% from 3 that would be unstoppable.

What would be scary is if he is PG all year.

Irving is a top 10 in MVP rankings easily but not top 5. People are sleeping on Horford has been amazing so far this season too.

Giannis, Harden, Curry, Durant and LeBron are in a tier clearly ahead of Irving. You could argue Irving, Westbrook, Boogie, AD and Blake in another tier followed by Porzingis, Oladipo, Aldridge and some others I might be missing

I dont care what seed you are.

I would not have Westbrook in that next tier, otherwise you also need to add PG and Melo as they are averaging the same pts and shots (weird isnt it).  Swap Porzingis and Westbrook and that works for me.

I think its pretty clear they are all trying to let each other score as all 3 where #1 options and they are trying to show they are team players.

They are all getting the same points but russ is getting 9 boards and 11 assists  instead of 5 5 for the other 2 guys.

I reckon those tiers are pretty accurate

First player in NBA history with at least those stats in each category. Dude is a beast. He will win an MVP if he can stay healthy. He will also win a DPOY.

No idea where George came from, but they actually have the cash for LeBron. I think it's the 2nd highest salary cap number available at the end of the season. The only team with more money is the Lakers.

Basically they have the cash for one max contract option. They are front loading RoCo's deal with the free space this season. There were Bron talks heading into the season considering his relationship with Simmons. It makes sense since the Wast is weak and the 6'ers have young superstars. I'd be shocked if he stays in Cleveland, but I'd also be shocked if he heads out West. Why would he when he has to play the Rockets, Spurs and Warriors to even get to finals?

I didnt know the cap situation i knew lakers could fit in 2 superstars in free agency i assumed philly could too. Brough up george as i reckon the 2 have been in talks to go to LA. At some point lebron could suggest another city. Philly is a good city.

I know it wont happen but lebron in philly is the dream. In LA wirh george looks more realistic though

Ben needs to start making his FT's. The Wizard went full hack mode and it got them back into the game. Simmons was 30 feet away from the ball and they were still fouling. He attempted 29 and made 15. Embiid had 18 attempts (no intentional fouls) and the 6'ers had a massive 64 attempts for the game. There were over 100 shot for the night.....

College all over again. Either let him shoot the three or foul and he’s pretty much useless on offence with ball in hand. It was and still is a massive issue

its his first season.

If he could hit 3s and FT then he would be a MVP candidate.

I really hope Lebron goes there next year and teaches him the trade.

The only three's he has taken are heaves at the end of quarters. He has been getting into the paint at will and either scoring or distributing. He has actually started to add a jump shot from around 15ft and it has been fairly consistent for most of the season. He still prefers to drive and with his size and athleticism it makes sense. He needs to bring that percentage up regardless. Even if he never becomes a consistent shooter or extends his range, he needs to score from the line to punish teams when they do foul him.

The Wizards are the only team that have gone the tactic of intentionally fouling. Not only intentionally fouling, but it was right from the inbound and even when he didn't have the ball or was nowhere near it. If they want to do it, good for them, they will have their whole team sitting on the bench before you know it.

The only explanation for Dragic that makes sense is that they felt the Heat deserved a token representative for being 4th in the east.

I reckon I heard that since the coaches are the ones who vote in the reserves, whoever was next in line with the most votes from that conference gets in, I could be wrong though but we can just blame the coaches :P

Not a lot of alternatives, if you hold it at Hisense/MCA it won't be able to hold anywhere near enough people.
If priced reasonably, I'm sure people will appreciate simply being able to be there, even if in a pretty poor viewpoint.

Forgive me for being a Thunder fan all, but lets have a look at the stretch home for the teams in between 3rd and 10th in the West.

3rd Portland 44-26 12 games behind 12 games to play.

vs Houston
vs Boston
@Oklahoma City
@New Orleans
@Memphis
vs Clippers
vs Memphis
@Dallas
@Houston
@San Antonio
@Denver
vs Utah

What a last road trip, on form they'll win more than not and stay third, but a couple losses maybe to Houston and Spurs at the end, and a tricky road trip ending in a back-to-back at Memphis could mean they could drop.

As a OKC fan i hope they do, but i don't see it happening!

4thOklahoma City 43-29 14 games behind 10 games to play

@Boston
vs Miami
vs Portland
@San Antonio
vs Denver
@New Orleans
vs Golden State
@Houston
@Miami
vs Memphis

I'm always optimistic about how the Thunder will play down the stretch, 5-2 against GSW,HOU,TOR. Proven they can beat them, but could very easily go the other way. Only good thing about the tough schedule is that the teams around them have to play similar teams.

5thUtah 40-30 16 games back 12 games to go

vs Atlanta
@ Dallas
@ San Antonio
@ Golden State
vs Boston
vs Memphis
@ Minnesota
vs LA Lakers
vs LA Clippers
@ LA Lakers
vs Golden State
@Portland

Tricky schedule for the Jazz, but they're in some form and can top teams like the Spurs and an undermanned Celtics team. Real tricky run home could see them drop.

6thNew Orleans 40-30 16 games back 12 games to go

vs Dallas
vs Indiana
vs LA Lakers
@ Houston
vs Portland
@ Cleveland
vs Oklahoma City
vs Memphis
@ Pheonix
@ Golden State
@ LA Clippers
@ San Antonio

Can Davis keep taking this team to higher of highs in the crunch of this stretch? 7 playoff contending teams will be tough, could come down to the last game.

7thSan Antonio 40-30 16 games back 12 games to go

vs Washington
vs Utah
@ Milwuakee
@ Washington
vs Oklahoma City
vs Houston
@ LA Clippers
@ LA Lakers
vs Portland
vs Sacremento
@ New Orleans

How quickly does Leonard come back? desperately need him to stay in the playoffs. A healthy Leonard vs Warriors in the first round? I'd like to see that.

8thMinnesota 40-31 16.5 games back 11 games to plau

vs LA Clippers
@ New York
@ Philadelphia
vs Memphis
vs Atlanta
@ Dallas
vs Utah
@ Denver
@ LA Lakers
vs Memphis
vs Denver

The great unknown. To be honest i see this Wolves team dropping out of the playoffs all together. They tend to drop big games they really shouldn't like Utah at home last week. A nice 3 game stretch might help them be safe though.

9thDenver 38-32 19 games back 12 games to play

@ Chicago
@ Washington
@ Philadelphia
@ Toronto
@ Oklahoma City
vs Milwaukee
vs Indiana
vs Minnesota
@ LA Clippers
vs Portland
@ Minnesota

Damn, 5 huge away games which could all very well be 5 L's. They have just lost there first 2 of this 7 game road trip to Memphis and Miami. One or two more losses and playoffs are as good as gone.

10thLA Clippers 37-32 18.5 games back 13 games to play

@ Minnesota
@ Milwuakee
@ Indiana
@ Toronto
vs Milwuakee
@ Pheonix
@ Portland
vs Indiana
vs San Antonio
@ Utah
vs Denver
vs New Orleans
vs LA Lakers

Can't see the Clippers making the jump. A lot of road games against tough opponents. 2 games back from Minnesota could be cut in 2 games or just as easily be made to 4 games back. Very tough.

I think the Cavs are probably good enough to hold on to it. It could come down to their April H2H match for who gets it. 6'ers have been really inconsistent as well so who knows where they fall.

Playoffs officially clinched though

He just needs to provide a spark off the bench. His stroke apparently looked pretty good in the game. Not perfect but better than where it was. He almost had a double double off the bench. If he keeps improving he is going to add a headache for other teams when he comes on the floor. Downside is TJ sucks off the ball and it showed in his performance in the Denver game. Brown will have a few games to find what works before playoffs at least.

No one is going to say no to LeBron. The same way no one will say not to KD, Steph or Davis.

Im clearly a Lebron fan but realistically i like Philly as a team more then the cavs.

Philly is the best fit for Lebron as he can win now with them and as he declines he can keep winning if Simmons Embiid become superstars.

However how would he work with Simmons been basically Lebron in a point forward. Markele is a point guard and Lebrons biggest gift is his passing ability.

How do you play them?

Simmons cant shoot at the moment and Lebron with the ball out of his hands wouldnt work. Would it stunt the growth of Simmons

The 6'ers win streak is a little misleading because of the quality if opponent in the streak. However what they just did to the Bucks is scary. No Embiid, they played most of the first without Simmons and put up 46. Fultz had a trip dub as well.

Horford has a 6.3 net rating with Irving on the court, and 8.3 with him off it. Anyone picking the Bucks are going overboard on the Giannis love.

Boston has a massive edge in defense, let's not forget who the #1 ranked defense is and you take Kyrie away that side of the ball only improves. And most importantly the coaching advantage - Stevens vs Prunty, that not a fair fight ;D

Only path for Milwaukee is if Giannis has like a 35% USG with 65 TS% type of explosion. I don't think he can do that against this defense.

Celtics are the surest thing in the first round. Bring it on :D

Ouch! Possibly hyperbole.. But am I not allowed to be hyped? We're without our 2 best players heading into a playoffs where we were suppose to be the favourites coming out of the east - obviously that's not the case now, but it can still be fun. It's playoff basketball!

If my original numbers weren't enough for you... The Bucks are 16th in net rating since Prunty took over, the talk that all they needed to do was remove Kidd (yes I know he was terrible) to fix their problems was wrong. They're average. They allow the most shots at the rim out of anyone, and the 8th most % of their threes allowed are from the corner. Their opponents NEVER take long two's. It's such a yuck defensive system.

We're going to be throwing out 5 guys who can switch everything, throwing multiple looks at Giannis whenever we can. I don't think he can go supernova and blow us away - could be wrong. Should be interesting, first round of the playoffs is one of the most fun times of the sporting calendar. :)

I think you will win but in playoff basketball i normally back the team wirh the superstar advantage.

Giannis is easily the best player on the court. He can win a few games alone.

Boston in 6 though.

Does he?

Got 1 less point then the 4 other starters combined
got more assists then the rest of the team combined.

Compare that to Indy

The 4 starters besides Oladipo put up 44 points and the team outside of him put up 15 assists.

I think he is in his right to not mention his team tonight.

Only 1 win seperated them and AD the best player on the court

Possibly a sweep even!  Imagine DC was healthy!  They would be causing some ruckus in the West.

Bled only pretends to play D, intercepts in passing lanes but doesn't want to put the lateral work in ... his effort in game 1 showed why Phoenix made the team DBook's early on ...

Celtics are the surest thing in the first round.

Quoting for future reference. Please stop embarrassing yourself, seriously...
Am pretty embarrassed.. That it took the Celts this long ;) they were never losing this series. The Bucks are just too poorly coached and it sure showed in this game. Prunty threw out a lineup with Delly, Parker, Muhammad and Jason Terry at one stage ;D

Looking forward to the Philly series, nothing to lose for Boston. Philly should win, but think it gets forced to a game 6.

Some spicy matchups in the east. A well rested 76ers vs a decimated Celts, but damn, any other team losing their 2 best players would've been swept in that first round, proves again how good their coach is.  The run most likely ends here and don't doubt 76ers go all the way through the ECF.  Can Lebron take out the Raps?  Possible, I think the Cavs role players get better from here so prob goes to another game 7.

Exactly, this is Toronto's best ever squad and it still isn't good enough to beat LeBron with home court advantage and his worst squad of the past 3 years we've faced him, add in how good Boston and Philly will be in the coming years, I really can't see why it's worth persisting with a team that's built to win, but can't. Unless we can somehow find a way to make some salary cap space and sign someone, just blow it up and built around Delon, FVV, Siakam, Anunoby, and Poeltl.

I literally have to bow down to Boston at what they have done this season.  What do Boston fans think of the rumours about Kawhi heading your way?  Have heard a few trade options, Hayward + Sac pick or Tatum, Jaylen plus other pieces?  The Hayward one might make sense with both of them playing the same position.  Tatum is going to be good for a long time.  Kawhi has had the year off and I think people forget how good he is, would be the best 2 way player in the league I'd think.

Would have to include at least one of Covington or Dario with a combination of Fultz and first round picks. I wouldn't make the deal if I'm the Spurs but if they think they can get Fultz to remember how to shoot, they like a player around the Lakers pick they might bite. I'd also want Dario ahead of RoCo if I'm them.

2 things can happen, LeBron does the unthinkable and takes out the Celts in this series cranking up his legacy...or he loses to a Celts team with their 2 best players out doing the complete opposite.  Either way I'd rather see this Celts team take on the Warriors, and MJ is GOAT.

why is it unthinkable for the cavs to win? all that has happened so far is the home team has one.

Cavs basically got nothing for Irving so i see it as them losing Irving too, so both teams have lost Irving so really its a Boston team missing Haywood but stacked with talent and with the best coach in the league.

realistically Love = Horford

so its 15th year Lebron v 2 elite young players + Stevens

Always a possibility when Lebron is involved..however this...not sure what the numbers would be in a conference final, but would think it is much less.

True but in most cases the team that is 2-0 would have been strong favorites going into the series. Celtics surely have the edge at the moment though but if Cavs win game 3 then id put it right about a tie in the series.

I think this series is just proving, even more so, just how good of a coach Brad Stevens really is; you could say it's even exposing Dwane Casey a little, considering he had a better squad than this Boston team with no Irving or Hayward and got swept, obviously it's not all on the coach but still.

Also love how the Cavs role players knock down wipe open shots consistently against the Raps but then straight away throw up bricks after being wide open against the Celtics, honestly hilarious at this point.

Yeah seems to look that way, Luka looks NBA ready and will make an impact instantly, think Ayton is going to take a few years to develop.  Taking a C not named AD, Shaq or Embiid at #1 is a massive risk imo.

Don't insult Al like that ;) Love is a really good player but Horford is far and away the best player on a conference finals team. Something that Love could never come close to doing, even in his prime. Horford's a knockdown three point shooter, a bully in the post, can grab a board and push in transition and is a great passer for a big - just an amazing offensive player. And he's probably better defensively with his ability to switch, and protect the paint. Think people are underrating the talent that is on this roster, and it starts with Horford.

Don't insult Al like that ;) Love is a really good player but Horford is far and away the best player on a conference finals team. Something that Love could never come close to doing, even in his prime. Horford's a knockdown three point shooter, a bully in the post, can grab a board and push in transition and is a great passer for a big - just an amazing offensive player. And he's probably better defensively with his ability to switch, and protect the paint. Think people are underrating the talent that is on this roster, and it starts with Horford.

2 monrhs ago my celtic friend called me clueless for saying love = al

He said love much better
Unfortunately, some people just look at his career 14 points, 9 rebounds stat line and thinks that is all he brings to the table. Basketball is so much more than that!

A lot of the Suns "insiders" are reporting that Ayton is a lock for #1

Yeah seems to look that way, Luka looks NBA ready and will make an impact instantly, think Ayton is going to take a few years to develop.  Taking a C not named AD, Shaq or Embiid at #1 is a massive risk imo.

I would love to see a lineup of:

De'Aaron Fox / Frank Mason
Bogdan Bogdanovic / Buddy Hield / Garrett Temple
Luka Doncic / Iman Shumpert / Justin Jackson
Harry Giles / Skal Labisierre / Zach Randolph
Willy Cauley Stein / Kosta Koufos

With Buddy Hield to be 6th man of the year (will never happen because its Sacramento)
Luka Doncic I see as a SG/SF in this league.  His handling is good but his length (6ft 8in) and shooting ability needs to be exploited.

Was looking forward to adding Porto Jr at 7 or 8 but Doncic is a definite upgrade.

Lots of young talent that would still take a season or 2 to really get to peak, but with no 1st round pick next year that gives that lineup time to get better.

valk, I was gonna ask whether you thought Fox and Doncic could co-exist?
Interesting you think they might put him at the 3 ...

jv - Kokoskof was Doncic's Serbian national team coach, led him and Dragic to EuroBaasket championship last year, but he himself is from Slovenia ... ;)

all the Phoenix commentary I've been reading indicates the decision is still line-ball between Ayton and Doncic, and will be all the way to the pick at the Draft, but with Kokoskof they'll really know a lot about Doncic ...  ;)

Basically McDonough needs to get this one right or he's gone, so he might go the safe play of Doncic, but then again, Phoenix have never had that dominant centre ever ...

Worry with Ayton will be his defense, not a natural defender or rim protector so that will make the Suns even worse defensively - it'll just depend on whether they think he'll help them score and rebound enough to make it not matter ... ??

Doncic will open things up for Booker and Jackson of course, but also possibly improve Marquese Chriss and Bender, and possibly even TJ Warren ... so ...

For mine, I think Doncic is the safer pick and Ayton is the 'swing for the fences' ... so obviously i'd take Doncic especially with Kokoskof at the helm ... one article I read said he could complete the versatile roster McD has been trying to create since he saw it from his time at the Celtics ... so the 3 wings DBook, Jackson & Doncic) all over 6ft6in, capable of switching on D (and I use that term very loosely with DBook/Doncic) and playing the PnR from the screens set by the 2 bigs (whoever that might be) ... ideally Bender and Chriss develop to play inter-changeable 4/5s and you cause switch ups on both ends of the floor ...

fingers crossed, fingers crossed, fingers crossed regardless who they choose??!! :o  :P   ;)

I can't see how he plays the PG with Fox there.  Fox is faster and a better ball handler.  Doncic is a far better shooter than he is a PG but we already have Bogdan and Buddy at the SG.  We SUCK!!!! at the SF so I feel he could play there.

This was a lot easier pick when we were getting 6 - 8.  Porter JR was a lock.

Shaping up to an interesting conference finals!  Both tied at 2 a piece.

Houston - best record in the West, added pieces in the off season to compete.  Stole back an away game to keep home court advantage.

Warriors - arguably best team in the league for the past 5 years.

Boston - best record in the East, lost their 2 main pieces to compete, yet still are competing.

Cavs - best player in the universe.

Really think both series can go either way.  Will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Yeah, it's either his wife or dad. Most likely his wife. The reason is because the Eric Jr account was live tweeting one of his press conferences.

Phone number for three of the accounts end in 91 (same as his missus phone number) but the reason people think it might be Jerry is because of this one

I hate when people say this. He didnt just overpay his boys.

keeping a team in the finals every year is tough and the cavs have done it with very little assets.

hill nance hood jr clarkson are pretty much rejects from their teams that they wanted to offload.

irving basically walked for nothing as the cavs ownership is incompetent.

Love keeps getting injured and is a shell of himself.

Green signed for the vets minimum.

Trisitan Thompson is the only guy you can fault but he was a lottery pick who was big time in 2016.

How could lebron have managed it better?

what assets could they have traded to get someone better.

then you look at the opposition they signed guys to long contracts that they picked up in the draft and then a top 3 player was able to join the team due to their great cap position.

remove JR TT from the cavs and what could they add

nothing and thats why they are there .

its alot more complicated then lebron over paying his boys, thats why they have GMs, issue is Gilbert didnt re hire the one doing the good job. David Griffin is more a Lebron "Boys" then JR. JR is just the card he was  delt.
Title: Re: NBA Season 2017/18

Agreed, Holz. TT and JR are just money out of Dan Gilbert's pocket, there's not much opportunity cost.

The one thing I'll disagree with you on, is that Irving didn't leave because of incompetent ownership - he wanted out because of LeBron and they took the best deal they could get.

Aldridge wanted out of san antonio he is still there.

Plus the deal for irving was horrible a injured player and a pick that would do nothing to help them win this year.

Irving was contracted for 2 years.

I also think he wanted out as they tried to trade him after 2016

Well that was uneventful

Lebron is trying to assist too much - I know he is trying to bring his players into the game but they cannot win with him scoring 30 points - he needs 40+ games for them to be a chance so I hope he just says flower it and takes more shots moving forward because his support cast just isn't up to it vs GSW

I always get a laugh when the game is over with a few minutes left and all the absolute nobody's come on for a rare run - something about it feels degrading too, travelling all year round just sitting on the bench and then only getting a run in a blow outs either way

Yeah that's the response I expected, and I can't argue against it - but there would be a part of those players who would feel somewhat flat about their lives - basically grown men who cheer squad the guys who can actually play at the level so there's an element of degrading there I think, especially when you take out the money side of things

They cannot win period.

Yep

Times like this you wish it wasn't East vs West and we could see two teams from the same conference play out for a title

Has anyone seen the uncut footage of what happens after what JR did in game 1?

Goes for around 2 minutes and one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen. I’d be ashamed if I was LeBron especially and some of the other team members. Just ridiculous that happen considering the game was continuing and at that stage still a decent chance to win

Yeah watched it last night, LeBron looked like he could've cried, reckon he is just playing now to keep his stats up and has checked out on the rest of the team.  Deservedly so in my opinion.

totally agree if he walks away from this series putting up 35 10 10 even if its a 4 game sweep you cant critisize him (people will but realistically its going to do nothing to tarnish him).

if he puts up 15 points then people will call it a meltdown.

I think this is the time where everyone (excluding Bron haters) know this won't be his fault, how terrible Cavs are, and how great a team he's playing is.

When was the last time 1 man took town a team of superstars?  Dirk beat LeBron, Wade and Bosh.  Dirk GOAT.  ;D

doesnt matter as soon as he loses we will be hearing about how Lebron has as many finals losses as Jordan has finals wins.

2011 heat arent even close to 18 warriors and id actually say the 11 mavs are better then the 18 cavs

got to remember the mavs swept a 32 year old kobe + 30 year old pau when Kobe was 1st team all nba and Pau second team all nba.

then 4-1 against a young KD Westbrook Harden Ibaka. Where KD was 1st team all nba and Westbrook 2nd team all nba.

2011 Mavs destroy these Cavs and it's not close at all. Cavs went to G7 vs a team with a guy who's just turned 20 as their best player. And got pushed to 7 in the first round too.

I think the '11 Mavs actually go a bit underrated. The run they went on that post-season is incredible

certainly dont disagree with you on 2011, he chocked hard he certainly had the better team.

2014 i completely disagree he was at worst decent with 28 points on 57% shooting with 52% from 3.

Wade and Bosh where both very poor. Together they put up 29 9 4 which is basically what lebron did solo.

He's still meant to be the best player on the planet with a decent supporting cast, best players on the planet don't go down 4-1 to an ageing Spurs, albeit who were absolutely rampaging at the time.

The old spurs duncan ginobli dropped 30 13 6 so outplayed wade bosh.

Then rest of the heat was old even compared spurs e.g. green mills

Then you had a 2nd team all nba parker and a young up and coming star in kawhi who dropped 18 each

Then add in pop

No embarassment in that loss.

2011 was embarassing even though mavs are underatted and went on a giant killing run

You don't need to defend LeBron with me, he is incredible, I'm just saying he has blemishes unlike MJ, and I'm not counting Washington because that was NOT MJ.  You can say he lost finals early in his career, but he hadn't claimed the title of best player in the league yet, Magic and Bird plus the Pistons helped him reach that level and once he won, he didn't lose again.  MJ also went up against a conference that was incredibly tough when the West was weak, on the other hand LeBron has seen the weakest incarnation of the eastern conference in my memory spanning over a decade.
Title: Re: NBA Season 2017/18

No player has no blemishes, Jordan just has no blemishes in the finals he has plenty of blemishes in the playoff before reaching the finals.

The guy was the best player in the league by 98.

1998: Got knocked out in the second round to a team that lost in the finals after pumping out 35 6 6 to win the MVP only dropped 27 points which is 8 worse then in the regular season.

1989: Got Knocked out in the ECF to a team that did sweep the finals, Jordan was very good but he still lost.

1990: Again lost in the ECF to a team that won the NBA finals, again Jordan was very good but he still lost.

1995 happend: The bulls lost to the Magic who got swept in the finals. Was he rusty yeah a little bit, but was he fresh after taking two years off yes aswell.

All that is different is Jordan's blemishes are before he made the finals and Lebron's is in the finals.

If Jordan was say in the West and made all the above Finals and his record was 6-4 than that surely should help his legacy, but weirdly it would hurt it as for some reason losing in the second round is better then losing in the finals.

6-4 is far greater then 6-0 but it ruins this myth of no blemishes.

Do you you know what no blemishes looks like.

If Jordan went 15-0 in seasons then thats no blemishes. He only made the finals 40% of the years he was in the NBA, Lebron is sitting at 60%.

Most Finals Played (By Greats):

Bill Russell   12
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar   10
Magic Johnson   9
LeBron James   9 and counting
Kobe Bryant   7
Wilt Chamberlain   6
Tim Duncan   6
Shaquille O'Neal   6
Michael Jordan   6
Larry Bird   5
Kevin Durant   3 and counting

I have never said Jordan isnt great, he just isnt head and shoulders above the rest. The list above shows that.

Even in Finals Won he doesnt stand out alone

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar   6

This argument has no end, and honestly I don't think they should be compared anyway.  Listened to a little bit of an excerpt from Gary Payton weighing in on the topic which was cool to hear.  To me anyway, it all comes down to being the best player on the planet at the time.  MJ with 6 finals and 6 FMVP = greatest player on the planet.  Don't think they had MVP awards around Russell's era so hard to tell where he fits in and that was before my time re the "eye test".  Best interpretation I've heard that I can lean towards is that MJ is the greatest basketball player and LeBron is the best basketball player, and he still has a chance to take both titles.

im happy not to compare the two.

But you said unlike MJ he is unblemished.

im saying no player in unblemished.

Wilt Russell best era 1
Kareem era 2
Magic Bird era 3
Jordan era 4
Shaq Duncan era 5
Lebron era 6.

those are my greats you cant compare Era v Era, you can argue Bird v Magic or Shaq v Duncan but even then the Era dont line up exactly.

the reason i come of anti jordan and pro lebron is i put both in that all time great list. Im arguing against jordan the clear goat. There is no clear Goat.

I do agree that Lebron Best player ever is completely valid, in terms of who achieved the most greatness its arguable (its not lebron though)

Russell 5 MVPs 11 rings 12 finals
Kareem 6 MVPs 6 rings 10 finals
Jordan 5 MVPs 6 rings 6 finals

can all make cases for greatness it just depends how you scale each era. on scheer raw numbers Jordan is 3rd in terms of greatness so it depends if you discount Russell and Kareem.

Don't like this at all, will stunt Simmons growth and they'll probably lose to Celts anyway.  LBJ needs shooters around him, Simmons would be redundant.

Lebron takes almost any team in the league to the finals.  The only 2 teams I can see beating GSW are Boston and Houston (if they are both fully healthy).  Lebron would tip either of these teams over the Warriors, can't see him going to Boston unless Kyrie leaves, Houston I'm not sure how they fit him in salary cap wise, they'd have to somehow get rid of Anderson's contract plus a few others and CP3 and LBJ would have to take a fairly hefty pay cut and CP3 wants max.  All I can say is flower the Warriors. :(

I'm leaning towards the Lakers at this point.

Sixers have the cap room but as JV mentioned might stunt Simmons' growth a bit, Houston will struggle with the cap and already having two ball-dominant PG's and surely you can write off the Cavs.

Lebron has said he is intetested in playing off ball and thats a smart move as it will increase thr number of years he can play.

Man I would love to see Lebron next to Kawhi, and hope Pop doesn't succumb to GM Lebron.  Don't see him going anywhere where they can't win a title which rules out a lot of teams.  I think he works with Houston as Harden, Lebron and CP3's would be able to get bulk rest every game.

Obviously would love LeBron and George St the Lakers but reckon Spurs is the best fit. That said, if we can shed Deng with picks instead of players, LeBron + George + young cheap role players + vets is not actually bad. Would be a top 3 side instantly.

Lakers have the cash but he won't win rings there

If he could somehow fit in Houston alongside CP3 and Harden then that would be the best chance to beat GSW so that would certainly be cool, but I don't think it happens

Don't look now, but Boston has come in from $64 to $13 over the past week to sign LeBron. Would have to be a sign & trade for Hayward, so very unlikely but could you imagine a lineup of Kyrie, Jaylen, LBJ, Tatum, Horford. That's instantly the title favourites.

I have truly no idea where he goes.

These are the two I was thinking as well. Pop is making a pitch I think this week and if he does go out west that's the only team that makes sense for me. Even if Lakers can get one of CP3 or George to pair with him I don't think their roster is anywhere near good enough to beat GS. Ingram could live up to the KD lite potential and Kuzma is a nice piece but they're not going to compete without at least one more major piece.

Said this for a while now and will say it again, Sixers make the most sense if he does leave the Cavs. He goes to play with two young superstars in Simmons and Embiid and he doesn't have to see GS until the finals. There is no worry to him stunting Ben, if anything it should actually improve his play with a hands on mentor role all season. He has never played with as dominant a big man as Embiid in his entire career and they have some complementary pieces like Dario, TJ, JJ, RoCo and a pick 10 this year. That's not including Fultz who will be working on getting his shot back all summer.

I can see it working very well

Lebron entering his 16th season does not wont to carry the team on his back, he can't possibly keep this up.

I actually think Simmons learning to play off ball would really help his game too.

Irving Lebron worked so i think more off ball lebron and Simmons could really work.

People said harden CP3 was a bad fit and if not for a CP3 injury they would probably be champions right now.

I actually think Simmons learning to play off ball would really help his game
It would help 90% of other players, but his current game is pretty restricted off the ball

Having said that, when he was most effective in the playoffs against Boston it was playing off ball with TJ running the point.

my whole point is Simmons needs to learn to play off the ball to develop as a player.

i think he actually can be really good off the ball.

Kawhi and Cousins to follow. Lebron wouldn’t go there by himself

Both would be huge, Spurs still rejecting offers though, they want no part of Lonzo and apparently LeBron has no intention of playing with Lonzo.

Can Boogie come back from the injury, prob still awhile away.

If they get DMC that would a decent team

DMC
Randle
LeBron
Kuzma
Ball

And then vet/role players (Ring Chasers) to fill out the squad.... as they would have to blow up the current squad and hope they can move Deng.

Just with that lineup they will be going in to luxury tax, not including a 3rd star

geez im conflicted.

Im really happy he is out of cleveland but dont love the lakers. Im worried about Lebron Ball combo if they can move ball on and pick up Kawhii then im super happy.

LeBron also just made his trip the finals a hell of a lot harder, so there must be more to come.  Even if they were to get Kawhi and Boogie they are certs to beat Rockets or Warriors.

what was his other options?

They could pick up Boogie on a 1 year deal or maybe more

They could sign JJ redick and other peices for 1 year and have an ok team then wait for Kawii/ Klay etc..

They can trade for Kawhii.

if option 3 then i hope they move on Ball + Deng for maybe a late 1st rounder. Then see if they can Move Kuzma + The Ball/Deng Pick and some more picks for Kawhii.

well Philly was a better option.

but staying at the Cavs was a worse option.

Id rather lose in the Western Conference Playoffs then lose in the Eastern Converfence Playoffs.

Cavs wouldnt have made the ECF

Hahahaha Rondo and Lance. LA is butchering this horribly.

completely disagree

to me its very obvious what is happening.

1.Lance, McGee, Rondo are all on 1 year deals
2. Magic has said he will step down if he doesnt get 2 stars in free agency in the next 2 years.
3. Lebron signed a 4 year deal not a 1 on 1 which means he is committed.

LA will enter the season with

Rondo Ingram Lebron Kuzma ???  - Ball McGee Lance etc..

then next year they will add Kawhii or if that fails Butler, Klay etc...

they keep their young core and get 2 stars.

Ball Ingram Kawhii Lebron Kuzma
