Just noticed Carlton Essendon Thursday night at IKON.  I have a meeting in Melbourne on Thursday afternoon.  Could stay down and go.   How crowded to you think Ikon park will be.  Not interested in squeezing in.

Carlton Collingwood at Morwell might be a goer as well.  Finish work early and 15 min drive to Morwell.

Finish work early and 15 min drive to Morwell.

gonna be 36/37 degrees on those days FYI go to a bar and watch instead imo
talked me into it,  aircon country train home,  cold six pack in my lounge room with ac.

Is the JLT only available for viewing though the AFL Live Pass? Tempted to grab a season pass as I'm no longer a Telstra customer. Tipping it will come in handy with my team being booted from Friday night footy and probably majority of free to air tv. Not having Foxtel is going to hurt as well.  :-\

giving kayo's 2 week trial ago during JLT

Kayo is the best thing to happen to sports streaming. Ive had it for a while now, 5 second pnly delay, real good quality and only $25 a month. Definitely would reccomend

Apologies in advance for my naivety, but how does this Kayo work? How do you stream it to your tv? I can download etc through my phone, but can I watch it through my smart tv? I paid for an AFL live pass for the year, but that only lets me watch it on my phone! Can anyone help me out please. Want to watch the JLT match tonight. Cheers

Pretty sure there is no app yet for Smart TV's or it only works on some.  I've used Chromecast to stream it and that works fine.

Thanks JV! I've downloaded it and am just screen mirroring at the moment. The picture isn't actually that bad quality. I'll look in to the chromecast as well. Cheers.

Walsh, Setterfield, Gibbons all just penciled their names in for round 1. That's what we like to see from rookies in JLT  8)

Zac Clarke looked great too but unfortunately he's unlikely with Belly in the side

What about Newman? Underpriced for his role and scoring capability for sure. I'm very tempted.

Needs to be a keeper at his price, which I'm not confident in. Probably goes mid 80s.

yep he may get a bench spot, but can't see him starting onfield at this stage. I'm rapt for the bloke to get his chance, but he's looking like another Pickett atm.

Bit harsh re The Pickett comparison - he's the worst haha

Gibbons didn't attend a centre bounce and played forward all night

Hopefully he gets a run up the ground in JLT 2

Either way, he's a lock at 102k but I agree if he stays in the forward line then he's a good bench option but not someone to field each week

Keen to see how Yeo goes tonight. Was fifty fifty to even play Round 1 and then played in an intraclub the other day and looked fantastic. Named on ball for JLT one. If he plays well and gets through unscathed considering him for M3.

Cripps, Fyfe, Yeo, Dusty, MCrouch

Yes, I'm gonna go him. It was him or Libba and I think Sheed made the choice easy for me :)

I didn't like the look of Yeo or McGovern. WCE impressed me with those clean clearances up the guts to Darling. The only other player that I liked was Constable. Hurn finished well.

PS. Oh, and of course Selwood gets a spot in the mids :) Dangerfield I cannot ignore as a DPP .. or can I?

Second biggest lock to come out of today’s action.

Does he fit in a side with Lynch though? If Lynch is named Round 1, and Balta is too then I would look at him, but I'm not sure he will have good JS and we don't want rookies sitting on the bench early in the season not making money

There's always a few Round 1 traps who get dropped a week or two later. Surely Balta would be a chance of being in that category?

Just a few points which are already in the public realm.

First is that Richmond have already stated they don't want to play a 7 million dollar investment in the ruck & potentially cut his career short. Lynch isn't a ruck & has had 2 hit outs the past two years.

Second point is Balta is a utility in every sense of the word, he can play defence, wing & forward. Even when Grgg comes back he will probably plug another hole.

Third point is Balta played numerous games in TAC football on the ball, in one game he managed 17 contested touches & 20 hit outs. With the ruck rules changing he's a perfect fit as I think Grigg will suffer when 200cm monsters start plucking the ball out of the air.

Final point is Balta is worthy of a starting position on the field, I think his scoring potential is good & 70+ not out of the question.

At the moment I'm seriously thinking about playing Setterfied at F3 given the number of good options in the forward line.

Balta & Drew look good. Drew has 3 preseasons under his belt & is a genuine contested ball winner. F6-F8 can be filled by Parker/Cavarra/Petrucelle.

I just think if you chose to do Setters at F3, you're asking for a weekly 40 at F6. And a fast tracked doughnut at F8 when one gets dropped relatively quickly.

Balta has smashed it today, would be shocked if he doesn't get named round 1. Up to 7 HO as well.

F6 a slight concern but will hopefully compensated by the added midfield depth.

I wasn't questioning Lynch being the second ruck. I know he won't be

My query was can Balta fit alongside him and Jroo. Going from 1 tall to 3 is a big change and I appreciate he can play all positons but Richmond is a very good and settled side so breaking in and holding a spot has to be difficult

I hope he plays obviously, but just being devils advocate because it's a fact that some of the rookies who play Round 1 are going to be traps and dropped shortly after

Bachar Houli after a very good pre season, good intraclub performance and now a good JLT game another cheap defender to consider at just under 400k

Had an injury hit year last season. Previous 3 seasons showed he is capable of a 90-95 average comfortably.

Is Balta more likely to start for the tigers down back where he started today? Seemed to play a Mr. Fix it role for the tigers in the vfl, very hard to pin where he plays best.

Like I said, Balta is a utility, can literally play anywhere on the park. But more to the point Nank needs support & Grigg won't cut it this year. The club has kept its cards close to the chest regarding the ruck situation but the cats out of the bag now. Get on board because I reckon he'll be a great pick.

Stats today 18 touches (8 contested), 9 inside 50s, 3 clearances, 7 hit outs, 2 goals & very nearly goal of the year if not for an Edwards mark on the line.

I did say nearly, but in any case I have Setterfield & Balta as the standout rookies in the forward line. Both are worthy starters on the field too.

If Drew and Balta do end up being standouts then that would be great, but id replace Cav or Parker cause neither will score much... Just means you actually have a capable bench option instead.

Probably the main reason I'm against picking Bach is there's a chance he gets dropped or phased out if his form dips in favour of a younger guy like Markov or Menadue. Someone like Brandon Ellis is in the same boat fwiw.

Plenty to ponder but I've decided to stack the backs because I can't justify paying 200k on Collins when Brodie Smith & Roberton are around the 300k mark, so it will be Clark/Quaynor at D6 & then a couple of cheapies.

In the mids I'm currently uber strong, Brad Crouch at M6. I may however swap him for Greene if push comes to shove. Greene does need at least 1 JLT game to impress.

Balta was great and apparently has been all pre season but it's hard to see where he gets in. Can play a lot of positions but assuming if he breaks into the side it will be as a forward and 2nd ruck.

HF: Caddy, Riewoldt, Edwards
FF: Rioli, Lynch, Higgins

Lambert, Dusty, Butler, Castagna the others to spend time there.

If he performs like that in JLT 2 he will have to force his way in but it's going to mean Richmond changing a lot about what's worked so well for them for 2 years

Yeah that's what I mean. Lynch is already shaking it up so having another big guy would be a huge change.

Like I said though, he can't be ignored if he plays like that again next week. I just worry that he could be in 1 week and out the next depending on who we play etc

Balta has the potential to play midfield too, that's the beauty of having him in the side. Had 3 clearances today which was the equal of Dusty & Cotch. The versatility he brings will be invaluable, particularly with the new ruck rules allowing players to just grab the ball from the throw-ins. Would be very surprised if he gets dropped as I cannot see Grigg ever rucking for Richmond again. I wouldn't be too preoccupied with height, that to me is a bonus, he's quick over the turf & good at ground level.

Cotch and Dusty only played till 3QT but yes you're right, Balta is definitely versatile and can play a number of roles. Will be interesting to see how he goes next week and what Dimma has to say about him

JLT 1 - 85min
JLT 2 - 62min

No injury that I’m aware of. I’d imagine they’ve seen enough and are just managaung a young player who spent the majority of his first year hampered by injury.

Also more players sharing game time as well though. So scaling shouldn't impact it massively.

If I downgrade Laird to a rookie and play the no def over $500k strategy, I can turn Gibbons into M Crouch and have a very strong mids. Honestly like the team more that way. Can always try to get Laird later and pray he has an early stinker to drop in price.

Yeah I'm thinking this is the way to go too, the Lloyds/Lairds/Simmos are just too overpriced for me to trust them when for the same price I can get Coniglio who I'm certain will at least maintain his average from last year and most likely improve it.

Just wondering though, which 2 sub-500k defenders do you like the look of (other than Williams of course).
Personally, I think Ryan and Witherden are my picks of the bunch but then there is value in guys like Mills/Newman.

Not sure I’d want any part of that with a Hore though but each to there own.

Jake Lloyd is out for the Swans today with illness.

Also worth noting Callum Sinclair is a late withdrawal. So Sydney are basically going in without a ruck, Sam Reid listed as their ruck on the team sheet. That means Nick Blakey is their only tall forward, and probably means Isaac Heeney probably spends a good chunk of the game forward as a marking target.

Hopefully everyone jumps off Heeney when he scores 50 playing forward all game.

spent half the night working out how to balance the byes.  Probably going to drop laird as part of the strategy as well and only have 1 def over 500k.  Taking another good look at Smith and seeing what smith and milera are doing at the moment see Laird as likely to drop dollars and be gettable later in mid season.
Libba to cousins is another option under assessment and then adding a menegola, boak in fwds or brayshaw in mids.

Honest question, are we expecting Cousins to increase his scores this year? Seems like he's averaged around 50 the past two years.

He should increase his score due to increased opportunity. It’s by how much is the unknown question

It's not over yet but has this all but confirmed that Newman isn't worth touching? Abysmal stats so far.

The game has been brutal to watch. Just scrum after scrum in the middle of the ground. The whole game feels like it has been played vetween the arcs with the Pies killing us in possessions. Not really taking much out of this game

Our KPF's have been really poor through both practice games. Not sure what's going on there.

The hype around him last week was laughable. I am probably the biggest Newy fan in fantasy land but you have to be realistic and understand his limitations as a footballer, he's not even close to Docherty. I still think he goes mid 80s though, as he has proven he has a nice ceiling and can accumulate the ball. I'll be snaffling him as late as I can in my draft

So obviously not good enough for SC/DT but still tempting for AF...

Fair summation. It'd take nurries to punt on him in a limited trades format. If he stinks up early you can't say you weren't warned! But everything points to him producing as he settles into the Blues style of footy. Still mid 80s in both formats for mine

If you like stress, go Walters, it's a ride. On fire, injured, plays mid, plays deep fwd, you never know.

Probably, the spreadsheets data is from a PDF linked in the herald sun article
