Title: ADT: Rules Discussion 2019/2020
Post by: Nige on August 20, 2019, 07:17:14 PM
I'm opening this thread for rule discussion.

LF and I (along with a few other coaches) have briefly discussed some potential rule changes both in private and on Discord but it's also worth having a formal forum-based discussion as well.

We'll keep this open for about a week and then probably have a vote.

Bought this up today with Nige on Discord
Players that return to AFL e.g Mumford and Garlett
The team that last had the player on their list gets first preference to pick them back up again could do this by using a rook pick or coaches bid for them using draft picks

My only suggestion would be positional additions throughout the season. I guess it’s hard to implement and control as admin, so not upset if it doesn’t go ahead

Do we still have the 20 Bonus Points for placing results in thread by Monday Night?  If so would recommend deletion.

Like the idea that teams who had previous delisted/retired players on their list who returned to AFL should get preference. As it was virtually a forced de-listing my thought would be to use a rookie pick to relist if desired if not player goes into pool.

This was scrapped after the spreadsheet we use for scoring was developed.

As for the clubs getting first access to previously listed players, the way it works in Worlds, to use my own team as an example is this:

When it was official that Shane Mumford was returning, I had to leave an open list spot (that otherwise would have gone to an ND or RD pick) and he was automatically added to the list after the drafts.

I'm happy for this to be the case in ADT as well.

Otherwise, as has been stated, we can either have teams bid for said player and then the previous owner simply has to match the bid. The other option as has been slated is the player gets added using the team's last available pick (which is basically the same as leaving the space open for them).

The results from the vote
Still one coach to vote and one that only voted for the first one

1. If a previously delisted AFL player gets picked up by a club, the ADT team that last had the player on their list has first preference to pick them up again.
Yes 9
No 2

2. A) The coach will nominate the player or players before the ADT draft in their list lodgment and as soon as the player is drafted, they are added to their team list.

B) Have a pick bidding system where any coach can bid a pick on the player/s and the previous owner only has to match the highest bid to secure the player. Both Nat and Rook picks can be used to bid.

A) 7
B) 3

3. Do you want this implemented immediately, for this upcoming draft.
Yes 10
No 0

So coaches will be able to relist players that get picked back up by an AFL team in the drafts by nominating them before the ADT drafts take place, this will start immediately.

Pick swaps (ie. one pick out, another pick in within a trade) should not count as a 'list movement' IMO

This won’t change
It’s this way for a reason

I'm not opposed to it, but maybe just limit it to picks only, can't involve players in trades? I doubt it'll happen anyway though because of nige heh
