Title: British 15's Official Trade period 1 thread
Post by: MTTY on September 02, 2012, 10:54:27 AM
The Trade period will work as follows:

Trade Period 1

Starts: After the Official Draft is complete

Ends: At the start of the National Draft

Trades: You may have up to 5 list changes, meaning that after you have finished drafting in the official draft that you can only add  or take five players/draft picks from your list. However if you get a player and then on trade that same player for another player it will still only count as 1 list change.

1. A list change will occur for both teams if this happens: Player x for Player y

2. A list change will occur for both teams if this happens: Player x for Draft pick

3. A list change will not count if: Draft pick x for Draft pick y

Please post all trades here.

Note: For a trade to be confirmed both parties must post the trade here.

Only 5 changes? Wasn't it 7 in euros+worlds? I think it should be 7.

I think 5 is enough. If you want more than obviously you drafted poorly ;)

The Hebden Bridge Hedgehogs would like to inform the rest of the world that ALL of their players are up for negotiations. Obviously, some will be harder to capture than others but the coaching staff consisting of myself, Ric and Spite are willing to listen to all offers.

Here is our team: http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,63090.0.html

We are in the market for strong fwds and another solid midfielder.

I dont see the trades as being possible, as you would have to make one of the trades first (either the one with Holz or Hawka) of which eitherway you do not have all the components of the trade.

E.g.

If you do the Holz trade first

Holz is getting - Boyd + Betts + my 4th nat draft pick + Hawka's 4th nat draft pick
I get off Holz - Christensen + his 1st,2nd,3rd nat draft picks

Bold = You do not have on your list yet.

Or if you do Hawka's trade first

Hawka is getting - Shiels + Fasolo + Holz's 1st nat draft pick
I get off Hawka - Ward + his 3rd nat draft pick + his 4th nat draft

Therefore Holz or Hawka would be unable to confirm the trades.

No worries pickers.

All you need is to post it

e.g

THREE-WAY Trade

Hawka, Holzman and picker_man

picker_man receives:

Hawka receives:

Holzman receives:

And then just get Holz and Hawka to post the same thing.

Yes, 14 tons in the first 15 weeks is hilarious.
Equally as funny is 4 scores over 189 including two 200+.
An average of 131 despite being 'shocking' in the second half of the season.

I was a bit reluctant for this one at first, but I need defense stability where I really drafted poorly I feel. Also I feel that Parker will be able to replace Shuey's scoring in the next year or two easily and also I don't really rate Howe's scoring ability too highly with Mitch Clark to come back into the Demons line up.

Exactly, Shuey is an upgrade on Parker for me but I lose my best backmen... Lucky Howe will slot in a F2 or F3 next year for us.

i agree should let people do what they want but some trades are just soo teriblle something needs to happen.

Like in the euro the Selwood for Shiels trade. Hawka now really regrets that at it made his team really weak.

Most people are looking at that trade the same way. These players score more so they are better. But position is a huge factor.

Shuey is the 34th highest avg scoring mid. Heath Shaw is the 11th highest avg scoring back. In front of shaw is lids, scotland, carrazzo, gram and enright, all whom are turning 30 or more next season or not going to be a mid. Meaning from the younger players, shaw ranks 6th. Goddard may move so who knows how he will score.
Being a pies supporter, I can tell you that Shaw has not been good this season. I feel he has been playing out of position, a bit too high up the ground yet still holds around the 100 average for a backman who will always be a backman. That is super valuable.

Then there is Parker, he has been the Sub countless times and no one can say how good he will be, but we know he will be good. Could he reach the 110avg next season, why not, maybe more if sydney continue to improve. As BB said before, there are questions marks about howe with clarke in the team. We need a forward and he needs a backman.

I feel the difference in parker and shuey is much much smaller than in shaw and howe which is where the trade in draft picks come from.

It's not a case of 100 + 91 is worse than 125 + 90 and that's that. We need to play rivers in defence now, so we lost 30-35 points there. If BB plays Heater over a rookie in the backline, he could make up around 40 points and that difference might be less playing parker and the next in line after howe.

Yeah that is one trade I do recall being a shocker.

I still think that some coaches need to cop the repercussions of poor trading.

Ultimately up to MTTY though, I don't mind too much :)

+1 there is more to trades than numbers but i agree with the guys comments on that worlds or euros trade whatever it was it was ridiculous.

in the Asians the vote was for admin approval. So 99% of trades will go through but that 1% of totally ridiculous trades can and will be blocked.

the rules here are that anything goes i think?

Couple of Questions
Also when we have a trade arranged do you as the approving body need any extra infiormation as to why etc, eg I am trading Player x for Pick y in National Draft.  Do we have to give you a rationale as to why i consider that player X is worth Pick Y to assist the Panel.

not outrageous :) rucks take many years to come on so jenkins is a good upgrade from an 18 year old taken in the draft no matter how early, but the other team in the trade may need a mid gun, which can go BANG from day 1. Pick 3 in the draft gets them that.....

balanced i would say depending on each teams needs.

To put all into perspective was going to take Grundy at pick 3 if available which I think he would have been. Was to be back up to my Rucks of Nat and Jamar so not necessary to play all games.  Rounds my Rucks nicely and worth the Pick 3 trade.  Basically Jenkins v Grundy for Team Balance. Think It balances out.
Title: Re: British 15's Official Trade period 1 thread
Post by: Boomz on September 03, 2012, 07:52:28 PM
The reason I'd say it's unbalanced is that you could have got a better ruck for pick 3 if you had shopped it around... Can't see Jenkins even playing consistently while Adelaide is at full strength.
Title: Re: British 15's Official Trade period 1 thread

but he's behind Jacobs who is only one year older and Jenkins will never loose the number one ruck he's to good, Also Jenkins doesnt fit into our forward line with the tall boys already there who help out in the ruck as it is. but yeah i wouldnt bloke the trade just dnt think jenkins will play much :)

The whole point of the team to discuss if trades are fair or not are judged on player V player( or players that can be gotten) and teams needs and structure. this trade helps both me and ringo's structure. Jenkins is averaging more than Cox did at his age.  ::)

maybe hard to say most teams are leaning towards having 2 rucks on the park... who else have the crows got? thing holding jenkins back is tippett and walker and the fact they don't need him "resting" forward, but if tippett goes, what then i say??

still i don't suggest i am a crow expert so....

good point on cox at his age - i didn't know that. Still i think ONLY RIDICULOUS trades should be blocked by this committee, and i think this is a fair way off being ridiculous.

I rate is as ridiculous Grundy is talked up to be the best ruck prospect in a long time. If he was available in the normal draft i would have taken him in my first 5 picks easy. Jenkins is a fringe forward.

I do not see this fair and ringo needs to get Grundy or at least pick someone good with that pick... Jenkins cannot get in the side, fantasy is different then it was 10 years ago. I'm sorry Torp, but when I ward I thought t was third round pick for Jenkins and still thought the trade was unbalanced :X

I strongly suggest all trades proposed be PM to MTTY for committee approval. Posting them here is just allowing other coaches to voice opinions and potentially influence the panels decision and serves no purpose whatsoever.

Plus there is no point posting trades here that may or may not even happen.

that's what I said but a better comparison to evaluate the pick is to look at Jenkins vs Longer.

Longer could have should have gone top 3 in the draft. Longer will be lucky to string together 10 games in his next 3 seasons at the lions while he develops. (with a fit hamburgler). Maybe Jenkins is on the fringe but who honestly expects any young ruck to be any teams walk up starter for the first 3 or more years of their career.

Jenkins could be a break out candidate without tippett in the team, they also lost gunston and haven't replaced him...

To me if Ringo was taking a ruck man with that pick 3, then he is may be no better off with Jenkins, but for years at least he sure isn't any worse off.

But here I go being a hypocrite influencing judges decisions with chitter chatter :)

I'm confused... so you are 3 way trading, and sending mzungu to holz? is that right?

you realize not doing a three way trade uses up an extra list movement for you, as you trade a player in then out, you use 2 list movements.

unless you can get MTTY to count it as 1 :)

IT'S NOT A 3 WAY TRADE. 2 seperate trades which is why I cannot confirm me and holz's trade until mons confirms me and mons trade.

being a Lions man I do have Drummond and Patful as mature age defenders if interested.  Interestingly Patful is the second favoured in Brisbane's B & F for Friday night. I did not take Patful till pick 592 in Round 33. Just pm if you like and check my team with Jenkins to be added to Rucks subject to approval. Very happy with Team.

MTTY, can you get a list of picks, or the picking order posted up for the National Draft (which shows traded picks).

don't need to list trades, just list each pick and who has it...

So that everyone can see who has which picks when. Now that we are trading picks it would be good to be able to see who has what picks including ourselves when looking at more trades.

Know it's a lot work, trust me :)

To be honest I don't really think draft picks should count as "list changes"

As they aren't really a part of your list, have never played for your team and are yet to be players...
Title: Re: British 15's Official Trade period 1 thread
Post by: Ringo on September 21, 2012, 01:02:18 PM
Still trying to work out list changes myself Nails.  I am now listed as 2 Thought it would have been 1 as I traded Motlop and 2 picks for Adams and Jenkins and 1 pick.  So I would say looks like draft picks if replaced by players are classified as list changes.  Bit uneven when you are giving up one of your national Draft picks to gain a player. Rationale someone can swap 5 players for 5 players on the list and still retain all draft picks.  Someone else swaps some players for draft picks counts as list changes and draft pick numbers are reduced.
Title: Re: British 15's Official Trade period 1 thread
Post by: Colliwobblers on September 21, 2012, 01:14:53 PM
i have decided NOT to count draft picks as list movements in Asians ( Where there is a list movement on each side of the trade).

Where it is a player for a draft pick - i count that as a list movement.

But MTTY runs things here and there is merit in both counting and not counting the draft picks as list movements, so I'll just agree with whatever the boss says.

Makes my trade 3 list movements instead of only 1, but no one else wants to trade with me anyway so no problem :)

Therefore (in my non-official opinion, and an opinion that respects your decision) I think that Ringo/Torp trade should be voided (sorry Ringo)

As that trade would take Torp to 6 list changes, and therefore because their trade does not pass, my trade with Torp should pass as it'll take him to 5 list changes as Ringo/Torp's trade should be voided under the rules.

Can I get some clarification on why Tabs and my trade did not go through? I thought the rule is there to eliminate crazy trades. Tabs and I agreed more than 2 weeks ago on this, have been basing all future trades on this going through. I believe the rule should be in place to prevent Ablett for Relton Roberts type trades rather than slight inequalitys. This eliminates the opportunity for coaches to pull off clever trades or strong negotiations.

1. A list change will occur for both teams if this happens: Player x for Player y

2. A list change will occur for both teams if this happens: Player x for Draft pick

3. A list change will not count if: Draft pick x for Draft pick y

Note: I will put this in the OP.

You are correct Nails. Apologies as i had Torp down as Betts not counting as a list movement for him too. (After Betts was on traded but it should still count for Torp).
I did the trade with Nails because I thought the trade with ringo would go through, neither trade should go through because of changed circumstances.

If you're doing trades because you're banking on another trade to pass, perhaps you should wait for that trade to be confirmed first as opposed to just assuming/hoping ::)

I agree this trade panel is absolute bullshower. The only blocked trades sshould be crazy trades not just because someone slightly wins the trade. People aren't going to trade if they think they are doing an even trade they always want to think they are ahead.

I am not trading until the trade committee is changed

A bit drastic? There is an appeals process isn't there, if the decision was close you may be able to convince the panel to over rule or they may just need a very minor change to the balance.

I am not commenting on the particular trade because it is none of my business but perhaps a PM to MTTY to appeal the trade would be a good first step?

I agree IN GENERAL that a trade does not have to be equal exactly but there are a lot of things to consider, as the trade that favors one team may favor them too much and MORE IMPORTANT, if it disadvantages a team too much, there is the risk that team will fail to perform, the coach quit and the team be left in a mess for the poor sucker if one can be found  to take it over.

For example the committee needs to be careful to not allow a young list that won't compete early to worsen it's situation by trading out senior players for draft picks, making it even less likely to compete for years.

I am sure he doesn't wasn't a GCS or GWS in British...

On the flip side, a team like Nails in Asians that has drafted old players for an early premiership, must be monitored through trades that is isn't trading itself into a hopeless position in 2-3 seasons time by trading in MORE old players for that early premiership and trading OUT their draft picks.

This would mean the owner could take 2 premierships, by then everyone retires, then his list is shot to pieces, he has traded all early draft picks away, and quits because it will take 5-6 years to fix the team.

Again how to find some poor sucker to take the team over?

AGAIN THIS IS GENERAL COMMENT NOT ON THE SPECIFIC TRADE/S THAT HAVE CAUSED THIS COMMOTION :)

Just saying MTTY is responsible for making sure he has a league with competitive teams, NOW, in a few seasons, and beyond.

Well these trades have been fine there's been no teams stocking up on old or young so I'm over it tradings obviously not worth the time in British because you cant have any advantage at all. So whats the point of you can't get an advantage.

As always a balanced opinion from Colli, which I very much respect. I will contact MTTY as you suggest, but I want to point out some concerns that I have here. I am not overly worried about that specific trade however it has raised some concerns for me about this process.

1. That was a very long way from being a crazy trade. I have an old list and was trading some excess players for some youth I value, plus a reasonable pick. Tabs and I agreed this was beneficial for both our teams. I understand Colli's point about wanting to keep teams balanced, but trading the calibre of players we had involved was hardly team defining. I much prefer Holz system in the Euro where most trades go through unless there is a really crazy trade.

2. The length of time taken to confirm the trade is clearly prohibitive. I understand MTTY is busy, but 2 weeks to confirm a trade means that we effectively are stuck in a holding pattern until it is confirmed. In honesty I though the trade would just be ticked off on, so had started to negotiate my next trades.

3. I feel the rules committee owe a bit more explanation than just 'Rejected'

4. It may be in the interest of the admins to keep the teams fair, but lets not forget that it is a game :) I've really admired when some coaches pull off a skillful trade by playing hardball, talking their players up and playing to their opposition's interests. This is part of the game I enjoy most and the part I'd hate to see lost by the committee rejecting marginal trades.

No disrespect meant at all to MTTY or the committee who I think do a great job, but honestly I am now reluctant to go trying to organise a new trade knowing that it may get rejected in this manner.

I agree with your concerns Spinking maybe MTTY can take the decisions upon himself and do away with the committee.

That is for him to decide however and he may have a process for dealing with trade decisions that are rejected, then challenged, maybe he then does take the final say on the trade and can over rule. or maybe he should / or shouldn't....

I agree trades should not be seen as having to be perfectly equal.

As we cannot predict the future of ANY player even a perfectly even trade may turn out to be a disaster for one side...

For this reason a certain amount of leeway, and speculation should be allowed in a trade, the what "could be" has to also be considered.

Take my trade with pickers just now...

For example gunston could be the next buddy or he could be delisted in a year.

Henderson, he has huge upside but possibly could become nothing, Pickers doesn't care he is just a balance for the trade...

For another example, redden may kick on and become the elite mid we all expect him to, Fyfe might do the same,

BUT if one of them does and the other doesn't then what looks a balanced trade, becomes a VERY UNBALANCED trade.

I don't mean to interfere just think it best to get a hold of MTTY and express your concerns to him, I am confident he will make the right call in the end :)

AND @ JBs-Hawks - I think you'll find BOTH pickers and I agree the advantage is his ! Fyfe under Lyons is a MASSIVE risk, will be the LEAST fantasy friendly team in the competition playing their ugly lock down football.

But if rejected we will build a case and take it to MTTY to try convince him to make the CORRECT decision :)

This is spot on by Colli. The trade panel was formed to do this, i formed it of members who i believe have the knowledge to do so. I even allowed a member (along with myself) of British to be on the panel.

As Colli says if you have a problem with the decision then appeal it. We have six people giving their opinion and not just one, if the majority cant see the trade as fair then it is rejected, as simple as that.

If you have a problem with the panel or how trades are run, feel free to leave the comp. I dont put in my own time to run this comp just to have people saying its poor. There are plenty of viable members on FF who would be happy to takeover.  :)

Decent trade. What do you want to us to say?
I was reluctant. It took about 20 PM's or so to come to an agreement.

I have Pendles and GAJ in the mids now. Pick #1 and Pick #2 in the draft :D

The potential of the other two was my main concern

Whilst it might look heavily in my favour now, Monstrum picks up two future guns who both could be the potential of GAJ and Pendles, so I hope the committee looks at that sort of thing as well as the immediate result...

You got a good deal but there is nothing wrong with the trade in the order of being blocked.

Apart from Pendles I like his players (he gets) better, the picks maybe weren't necessary  ;) not #21 for #55 anyway  :o .

The committee should pass it....... eventually trades are personal unless it is stupidly unfairly uneven most should go through

again just one opinion

Here are the committee members
MTTY; ossie85; CrowsFan; roo boys; Ziplock; Boomz

Most of the others are on the forum regularly so maybe they should be also pushing the issue.  We have not had an update for 3 weeks and whilst trading is just adjustments to lists it is still not good enough.

On another matter what are the rules for picks for players retiring as I can not find any and I now have 2 in Drummond and Swift.
Title: Re: British 15's Official Trade period 1 thread
Post by: Colliwobblers on October 06, 2012, 10:19:13 AM
I believe the compensation comes in the form of picks at the end of our rookie/preseason draft...

Drummond should be better compensation but I think that is the rules.

I will try find time to put the list of trades since the last approval has gone through together and I will PM the list to MTTY and all committee members.

If MTTY is too busy then the committee members might have his approval to rule on the trades.

wewill see.

Hi Mtty, and committee, I have put this list together of all the BXVs trades proposed and waiting rulings, to help you get decisions ruled on. Has been a while I have advised fellow coaches MTTY is very busy but you probably need to get something done soon, people cannot make further trades of plan for the draft without knowing what is happening with existing trade proposals.

TRADES FROM MOST RECENT TO OLDEST:

Trade between The Swansea Breakers and The Winchester Werewolves.

Swansea Breakers Give: Sam Gibson + National Draft Pick * Ringo's 2nd Round Pick I THINK # 34

Winchester Werewolves Give: Josh J Kennedy + Aaron Cornelius

Ringo To Confirm.
Confirmed Need forwards and this trade allows for this

Big news!!

Lobsters give:
Pendles - Rosa - Taylor - Masten - Pick #20

Hoods give:
Heppell - H. Bennell - Pearce - Pick #54 - Pick #55

.... Discuss... :)
Confirmed :D

I trade: Betts, Jenkins, Nat pick 33, Nat pick 36, Nat pick 40.

Ringo trades: Motlop, Nat pick 3, Nat pick 70, Sam Reid(GWS), J. Wilkinson.
Been away for 3 days so confirm the trade. Main interest in Jenkins as a back up ruck.  Other trades and picks to balance,  Leave it to MTTY to decide on legalities.

Trade between Colli and me

Colliwobblers give: Redden + Henderson

Picker_man gives: Fyfe + Gunston

CW to confirm :)

confirmed

I think this is all that is pending, will tell the guys to PM anything I have missed to you all as well :)

Not sure if I missed any if i did PM it to the committee and MTTY, this is all I could see going back to when MTTY was last on.

almost 100% sure MTTY has already confirmed earlier in htis thread, draft picks for draft picks trades do NOT count as list movements.

Same as IN Asians.

player - player = YES

player - pick = YES

pick - player = YES

pick - pick = NO

certain of it, could go back and find his post but i can't be bothered :)

I hope ur right colli!!

Fletch dug this up from the rules i think

It's in the rules...

Trades: You may have up to 5 list changes, meaning that after you have finished drafting in the official draft that you can only add  or take five players/draft picks from your list. However if you get a player and then on trade that same player for another player it will still only count as 1 list change.
Title: Re: British 15's Official Trade period 1 thread
Post by: Colliwobblers on October 10, 2012, 10:55:23 PM
OK so I had to go find his post :)  pretty clear here. but best check with MTTY if any doubts he is the boss :)

1. A list change will occur for both teams if this happens: Player x for Player y

2. A list change will occur for both teams if this happens: Player x for Draft pick

3. A list change will not count if: Draft pick x for Draft pick y

Note: I will put this in the OP.

You are correct Nails. Apologies as i had Torp down as Betts not counting as a list movement for him too. (After Betts was on traded but it should still count for Torp).

This is starting to get silly, trades haven't been checked in ages.  ::)

if you look back to my post which summarized the trades outstanding, the committee all rules on these trades in the affirmative, but obviously ( understandably) none in the committee were willing to post an official passing of the trades in MTTYs absence.

ANd it certainly isn't my place to do so, but I can tell you those that were listed in my post, including both of Ringo's were agreed to by more members of the committee than were left to vote against, meaning they all will pass.

So you can assume very reliably that those trades at  least will pass but obviously it won't be official until MTTY makes it so.

Here is a link to the ones I got answers back in the affirmative from the majority of committee members ( majority including MTTY)

Confirmed

Yeah good point ok

REASON:  The Werewolves have 5 ruckmen on our list but after trading out JKennedy and Cornelius to Ringo recently we are a little light on in FWDS, this trade gets us a DPP MID/FWD rook taken at pick #7 in the draft, and we give to a team in need of another ruckman a bit better than a rookie taken at pick #10. I asked for the player in Haynes and he was taken in our draft earlier than Gorringe so I offered JB a pick exchange in his favor, probably more than I would like in his favor but given the players we are trading and the relative closeness of the picks I think the trade is very even just suits our structures to make the trade.

Plus I have a thing for orange rooks, but not a fan of the red and yellow ones :)

Spinking you may also have to make a ruling on compensation picks for retired and delisted players.  I have both Drummond and Swift in this category.

Thanks Ringo.

I've just updated the Nat and Rookie threads with the most current selection orders, and with some additional clarifications. In the rookie thread I have indicated that additional picks will be given at the end of the rookie draft until each team meets the required quota of 46 players. This will be in the same snake format as the rest of the rookie draft.

I can see that this may be more of a disadvantage to some than others, as say, Drummond still had reasonable value and is more of a loss than some of the rookies that have been delisted, however trying to implement a compensation system that is agreeable to everyone would be a nightmare. At least this way we are on a level playing field.

Can't really change it mid-way through. MTTY does say in another thread that we would have a second trade period after the drafts which will last longer. He initially suggested it would be unlimited trades, then maybe 10. I think that would be about right.

The Hedgehogs have confirmed their first trade of the trade period!

We Give: Hayden Crozier, Tom Couch and Nat pick 26
Tabs Gives: Billie Smedts, Jarryn Geary and Nat pick 57

Reason: We were looking for players to bolster our backline depth and these two players (Smedts and Geary) provide that. Crozier and Couch have incredible, untapped potential and will fit in well at the Steins. The pick upgrade is to compensate for the lack of experience at AFL level that Couch and Crozier have at this point in time.

Tabs to Confirm.

Big trade reached between the Leeches and Owls

Oxford Owls give: Andrew Carrazzo, Alex Johnson, Jarrad Waite
For
Leeds Leechers give: Greg Broughtan, Josh Tynan and NAT pick 29

Noz to confirm trade

Confirmed

Reason: Needed some more defenders with Carrazzo loosing his DPP plus another pick inside the top 30 is handy
Here is the trade that me and Noz confirmed the other day.

Good trade boys.  I reckon it's a slight win to BB if Carrazzo keeps DPP, but thats unlikely so pretty even.

Trade 14

Huddersfield Hawks receive: Luke Breust + Nat Pick 27

Crosby Cruisers receive: Jed Adcock + Nat pick 67

I reckon if Adcock keeps his body right, that would be a win to Pickers, but keeping him on the park has been a challenge over the journey, so fairly even. Good trade boys!

Hahaha. Hopefully the revival is not done yet!  ;)

Almost impossible to get hold of m0nty to get the Mod thing changed. I have however managed to clean up the thread by getting HP to delete the outdated threads and sticky the new important threads. My plan is to keep the 'Rules and Information' and 'Discussion' threads permanently stickied, plus the current seasons thread which will include fixtures, results and the ladder.

The inactivity won't last long. Our trading rules meant that this activity was short lived, but the Nat and Rookie drafts will fire everything up again.

Post by: Colliwobblers on November 05, 2012, 09:17:23 PM
Yeah the Mod thing would be a huge help, but the new threads and the activity from Spinking is first class. I would suggest a PM to every coach in regards to draft dates upcoming is all that needs to be done, and everyone should show up on National draft day and beyond and away we go.

Loving the effort so far, British is looking good. I don't think you can contact Monty by PM, but as I said post a new topic to his attention in feedback and wait, he has proved pretty active in keeping on top of things that go into the feedback thread.

still it is the off season so..... may require some patience :)

For de-listing though Spinking have you got a formula worked out for the order,  For example I will have 2 for Drummond and Swift so with Panos how are you deciding the order for picks. Nothing in rules.  IU would suggest in de-listing order if it can be tracked down.

My thinking was that the rookie draft continues in the same snake format until all teams have the required number of players. Once a team is full it is skipped. Most teams will probably have at least 1 or 2 delisting a Id think.

Not sure i have done it right but in the AXVS I am giving compensation picks in the order of the picks the players delisted were taken at.

example

pick 500 in Initial draft gets delisted  ( that team gets a compensation pick after the Rookie/Preseason draft)

BEFORE THE TEAM THAT HAS

pick 520 in the initial draft gets delisted

and so on.......
Title: Re: British 15's Official Trade period 1 thread
Post by: Ringo on November 06, 2012, 06:43:23 AM
Personally  I tend to favour Compo picks on draft order picks as it may be fairer. Someone may have a player who was picked at 100 say who was delisted but with a snake draft may have to wait to say 15th pick whereas someone who had player who was picked at 500 may be lucky enough to get pick 1.
Your decvision though,

Here is a list of delisted retired players (58) as per the AFL site and the appropriate draft picks in the initial draft.  Subsequent trades have not been taken into consideration.

Some may be picked up in draft and could be deleted but if all agree would suggest this is draft order at conclussion of rookie draft

Fletch you appear to really have been hit hard with 9 players either delisted or retired.  This has convinced me that to be fair to all that draft should be in the order original players were picked.

TBH, I didn't know I'd lost some of those players like Garlett, Bower, and Djerrkura for instance. They are the breaks I guess.

Hopefully, some of them get picked up, like Gram for instance. He's a killer >:( and a stalker :P

Yea Fletch a few surprises for me as well as I was compiling the list. But as you say them the breaks. Also as I stated convinced me that the final draft order should be in order picked as it is the fairest system.  In your case you would not want a late pick for a player you picked at 144 in the Draft.

Thanks heaps for doing all that work Ringo!  I do agree that we should implement a compensation system, and most seem in favour of that.  I'll throw some rules together and see what the populous think.. :)

yeah i had a few too, I agree picks should be in order of when delisted/retired players were taken in the initial draft. as in Ringo's list should be the order.

need to just update list after AFL preseason draft, and BEFORE british rookie/preseason draft, getting everyones preferences whether to delist or keep players who DO get picked up by other clubs in the AFL preseason draft.

with the british draft starting straight after the afl draft going to have to get everyone to tell spinking what they want to do with any RE-LISTED players before we get to the last round of the british draft or ?

My thoughts on this are any players that are reselected by other teams are retained by current owners and deleted from list. We should only have the comp picks for players no longer playing in the AFL. My opinion only, based on the fact that we have just drafted our teams so any players still playing should be retained.

+1 I am in total agreement, the only thing being that if a player like Gram does not get picked up again, no bias intended, that the compensation is better than just having a pick after the ND has finished.

I picked Gram on his football proess, not expecting him to be sacked. This is almost like the McCarthy situation IMO.

Maybe something like...

A delisted player from 100-200 can be an after 3rd (could make it 2nd) rd is completed pick.... 200-300 after 4th rd pick... 300-400 after 5th rd then the rest all after end of draft...

(not sure how many ND rounds there are...)

That something like that would seem fair to me IMO. Replacing Gram with a spud no-one ever wanted seems a bit rough for Fletch imo

i don't think any compensation picks should be given DURING the national draft.

99% of these guys delisted or retired were VERY LATE picks and shouldn't be able to be replaced by gun kids in our national draft.

in the case of Fletch, I agree, not JMac like he was 22 and rapidly improving, i took him at round 11, but certainly I think Gram warrants a national draft compensation pick around maybe end of round 4 , 3 would be generous? leave that to the boss...

Jmac was for me end of round 2.

As for ALL the other delisted and retired players i think end of rookie draft compensation picks is where we should get the picks.

and yes I have 4 players delisted so not being biased :)

That's all dependent on if he doesn't get picked up. I'm happy to have him if he gets picked up.

Great Suggestion Nails was wondering for those that had early picks that retired or were delisted and then having to wait till pick 73 in rookie draft for compensation picks. Need to wait till after the pre season draft to see which players are being picked up by other clubs.

With 4 rounds in the Rookie Draft I would suggest as follows:

Teams with players not playing who had picks 100 - 200 Compensation picks after Round 1
Teams with players not playing who had picks 201 - 300 Compensation picks after Round 2
Teams with players not playing who had picks 301 - 400 Compensation picks adter Round 3
Balance after completion of Round 4.

This formula is reasonable as it will give a coach who had an early pick 2 picks in Round 1 of the Rookie Draft and so on.  Fair compensation imo.

i'll go along with whatever, Ringo/Nails system seems reasonable, Ringos formula of compensation during the "rookie" draft as laid out above seems very reasonable indeed.

except for special exceptions which i think there are only a few, me (Jmac) fletch (gram?)  i think Ringo and maybe one or two others had a really high pick retire/delisted as well? drummond?

anyway i'll go with the flow but that looks fair to me Ringo.

Good debate lads. I agree with Colli that the compensation picks shouldn't be in the Nat, and with Ringo, Nails etc, that there needs to be a tiered compensation scheme.

I'll post up some rules suggestions tonight for comment.

It has to be the Rookie Draft, as I believe that in my case, my player can still be picked up, CW's can't be, so that is fair.

If Gram was to be picked up in the Pre-Season draft and I had compensation in the ND, that would not be right...

very fair of you fletch but under the gram circumstances think a better than normal compo pick should go your way maybe start of rookie or end of national, not sure but that was another unexpected event that bends the "normal compensation rules" just my opinion tho.

It will be hard to get a purely Fair system but hopefully in Fletch's case Gram gets picked up. Maybe just amend my proposal to any picks under 180 (Top 10 picks for all teams in the Draft) have a priority pick in the Rooke Draft eg 1st picks. This may equate to losing a top 10 pick from your side.

Makiing the suggestion as follows: (I have redrafted slightly and leave it open to debate)
Draft picks under 180 - Priority picks in the Rookie Draft. (Top 10 picks per team in Draft) Currently one pick
Draft picks 181- 270  Compensation picks after Round 1 (these were picks 11 - 15 in draft) Currently 4 picks
Draft Picks 271 - 360 Compensation picks after Round 2 (these would be picks 15 - 20 in draft) Currently 4 picks
DrafT Picks 361 - 450 Compensation picks after Round 3 (these would be picks 20 - 25 in Draft) Currently 4 picks
Balance after Round 4

Basically this means that we are giving prioity picks in the Rookie draft to teams that have lost players from their top 25 picks.

Rules around this would be that the order would be on the basis of picks and that the player no longer is playing in the AFL eg retired or not picked up by another club.  If you still choose to delist one of these players that have been picked up by another club you will revert to picking after the Rookie draft.

Hope this makes sense. But really needed to concentrate on getting suitable compensation for a team losing a top 10 pick. To show my Fairness could have made it top 15 and included my own 2 players who are retired and de-listed but I believe a top 10 pick really deserves it if not picked up.

Please feel free to pull apart or discuss further (Originally thinking next 10 picks for the compo picks after each round but thought that may be a bit too generous.)

all in all it seems spot on to me Ringo, not sure I will employ such a plan in AXVS but this has forced the discussion  ???

The problem for me is where to draw the line/ cut off for each bracket, but your list looks pretty evenly spread and fair compensation for each bracket.

I also agree with you 100% on if they are picked up by another club you can still delist but you only get a "standard" end of draft compo pick.

Not sure if Spinking has posted elsewhere a final rule I'll go along with whatever but this seems pretty good to me .
We moved to the discussion thread and listed the rules there so as to not clog up the trade thread.  Have had 2 more de-listings today with both Bartram and Skinner retiring.

Hi Folks.

I've clarified the rule on Trades to reflect that a List Movement is defined as where a player from your existing squad is traded to another team.

This means that trades of draft picks, or players who have come into your team during the trade periods will not count as list movements.

As such the current List Movement counts are:

Winchester: 5
Crosby: 5
Liverpool: 4
Manchester: 5
Oxford: 3
Birmingham: 3
Nottingham: 3
Leeds: 2
Hebden Bridge: 2
Staines: 2
Huddersfield: 2
Swindon: 2
Swansea: 1
Newcastle: 1
Grope Lane: 0
Bradford: 0
Hastings: 0
Bilston: 0

As above.  Teams that hit the cap of 5 can continue to trade but only using draft picks, or players who have entered their team through the trade period.
