Title: North v South Challenge Round 13 - Brave Heart Shield
Post by: Ringo on June 05, 2013, 01:22:06 PM
Just giving you some information to start thinking about the challenge.

There will be three teams to be picked from each area.

Points will be awarded 10 points for winning 1st game 7 points for winning 2nd game and 4 points for winning 3rd game. Area scoring greatest points for the Day will win the Inaugural Brave Heart Shield.

To involve all coaches in this round I have appointed coaches and assistant coaches for the teams as follows based on the Ladder positions.  Head Coach will be responsible for naming the Team but can call on assistance from assistant coaches.  Head Coaches feel free to change team names from North Team 1.

North
Team 1
Head Coach Sid/Spinking (Falcons) Assistant Coaches - Elephants/Spite (Hedgehogs) Torpedo10 (Magic)
Team 2
Head Coach JBs-Hawks (Hawks) - Assistant Coaches Whatlez (Badgers) Monstrum (Lobsters)
Team 3
Head Coach Picker_man (Cruisers) Assistant Coaches BB67th (Leeches) Nails Giants.

South
Team 1
Head Coach FootballFactory (Hoods) Assistant Coaches Kilbluff1985 Noz (Owls)
Team 2
Head Coach Ringo/nrich102 (Breakers) Assistant Coaches Powerbug (Hurricanes) Tabs (Steins)
Team 3
Head Coach Colliwobblers (Warewolves) Assistant Coaches Sydney Rox (Bunnies) Jukes/Ossie85(Swaggers)

Team 1 will have first selection from all available players followed by Team 2 and then Team 3.
Teams to be named as usual 15 players with 5 emergencies which will be trimmed to 3 by first bounce of Friday night game

Teams 2 and Teams 3 are allowed to include the named emergencies for the previous teams.

In the event of the emergency being required then the player will come from the lower team and replacement will flow down the chain.

eg Ryan O'Keeffe is named as an emergency for Team 1
He is selected as a mid for Team 2
a mid is a late out so Ryan O'Keefe is required for Team 1
Team 2's emergency mid will be elevated from Team 3 and similarly for team 3.

For South Team2 Nrich102 will be head coach lodging teams for transparency.

Will start 2 threads listing available players for North and South

Feel free to banter in this thread - (Will lock the previous discussion thread).

Let the battle begin

How can you say that after our midfield scored 1110 last week between 6 and captain? :P

Obviously Stanton is the in form mid and scooter is not far behind!

I'll tell you the same I told spudelephants... Stanton has the flowering bye.

Your creativity is amazing... Wanklez.

Spudphants. Sorry.

Mmm, righto.

Have you contacted Spink Sid - Just trying to keep all coaches involved for the week in an assistant role.  If happy to relinquish to Ele and spite that would be OK as well.

Morning Guys - I thought I would just clarify the use of emergencies for this challenge.

Teams can name up to 5 emergencies to cover any late outs etc when teams named.
Emergencies to be cut to three prior to first bounce on Friday

Teams 2 and Teams 3 are allowed to include the named emergencies for the previous teams.

In the event of the emergency being required then the player will come from the lower team and replacement will flow down the chain.

eg Ryan O'Keeffe is named as an emergency for Team 1
He is selected as a mid for Team 2
a mid is a late out so Ryan O'Keefe is required for Team 1
Team 2's emergency mid will be elevated from Team 3 and similarly for team 3.

Think this will allow for an exiting and competitive challenge over 3 matches.

Have added rule at front.

He had his second child a few weeks ago and I think he's building a house or something like that. I think he should maybe  get a caretaker coach and someone to name the side for him.

Following the First games scores as follows:

South Team 1 536/6 v North Team 1 182/2
North Team may be favoured here due to the fact that South Team have injury related scores for Shannon Hurn and Grant Birchill.

North Team 2 482/4 v South Team 2 399/3
Will be a close game this one and go down to the wire.

South Team 3 248/2 v North Team 3 180/2
South Team favoured slightly here

Captains have not yet played and at this early stage result may hinge on the the outcome of the Team 2 match.

Post by: Ringo on June 22, 2013, 06:57:49 PM
um maybe we should have made Montagna C lol
Montagna 174 Steven 149 so only 25 points lost - Hope this not the difference.

After the Saints Melbourne Game
Team 1
South 1346/11 (Captain played) v North 339/3
This one is tightening up a little but still favour North slightly

Team 2
South 1019/8 (Captain Played) v North 956/9
Still anyones game here maybe North slightly

Team3
South 745/6 (Captain played) v North 495/5
South would be favoured here.

Still looks as though the match between Team 2's will decide the shield.

As I will be going to the Gabba later and will probably not get the chance to update till late I will provide the scores as they stand with 2 matches to go.

Think Team 1 has this one following the outstanding performance of Captain Griffin and with 7 to play v 4 to play and a a 237 points advantage. Defence for the South Team 2 was let down with Hurn Injury and Birchall subbed. may still be close if any of the North remaining players flowers.

This one still too close to call. Will depend on the overall performance of Swallow as captain. This may be the deciding match of the challenge as well.

Tend to favour South Team here but if Joel Selwood goes bang North may get over the line.

Who will take home this shield at the conclusion of today.

Remember the scoring
10 points for Team win
7 Points for Team 2 win
4 Points for Team 3 win
Team with most points win the day so you can see the importance of the Team 2 match result which will be tight.

we were optimistic even excited about the lions at season start, tonight a glimpse of why....  cats put the cue in hte rack but it still took a lot of great footy to get home.

Still not convinced on Voss's coaching though Colli. Starting Hanley and Rocky forward did not look good at the start.

I agree, this was ALL about the players.... you can't coach what they pulled out in the last quarter.

you can credit the coach if they do it every week - usually (Geelong), but out of the blue like that, i give the coach no credit for that, and the players all the credit.

the coach was more shocked than we were :)

This weekend saw the inaugural North v South for the Braveheart Shield.

In a somewhat surprise result North Teams come home strongly to defeat all South Teams.

Team 1's North 1970 defeated South 1753
South Team 1 was always on the backfoot following the injuries to Hurn,Birchall and Vlastuin who were all subbed out. The effect of this was shown that North Defenders scored 350 compared with South Defenders 187. With the defenders falling North were easily able to over run South. North midfield out shone the South Midfield well led by Captain Griffin, Barlow , Boyd and Kennedy. South took a risk naming Steven as captain and this backfired with vice captain Montagna matching Griffins score.
Best Players:
North: Griffin, Barlow, Steve Johnson, Boyd
South: Montagna, Fyfe, Steven, Jack

Team 2's North 1793 defeated South 1606
Late changes: Tom Mitchell replaced David Mundy and Dean Terlich was promoted to utility for South,
This match was initially one of the tightest of the weekend but North came home with a wet sail to overwhelm the South Team. When it mattered most Captain Andrew Swallow, Defender Garrick Ibbotson and Forward Matthew Stokes really lifted guiding the North Team home after South made the initial running.  Souths plans were disrupted slightly when David Mundy was a late withdrawal. On of the differences in the 2 teams was the performance of Captains with Swallow lifting when needed and scoring 170 points compared to O'Keefes 134,
With the North defence faltering forwards Sylvia and Stokes were able to take advantage and ensure the win for North.
Best Players:
North: Swallow, Shuey, Sylvia and Stokes
South: Roughead, Priddis, O'Keefe, Kerr

Team 3's North 1676 defeated South 1631
Late Changes: Dean Terlich was promoted to Team 2 and replaced by Chris Newman and Ben Cunnington was replaced by Matthew DeBoer
South Team had the upper hand for most of the game but were unable to halt the strong finish of the North side with Captain Joel Selwood outstanding and carrying the team across the line. North Team played 2 Ruckmen in Goldstein and Berger and this paid off with both dominating when they went forward provifing difficult match ips for the South side. Captain Nick Dalsanto was a little disappointing for South only scoring 116 points compared to Norths Captain Selwood who scored 168 in a best on ground performance.
Best Players
North: Joel Selwood, Brad Ebert, Reddan, Leuenberger
South: Moloney, DeBoer, Josh J Kennedy, Hodge

Congratulations to North Teams (Falcons, Hedgehogs, Magic, Hawks, Badgers, Lobsters, Cruisers, Leeches and Giants) who will hold the Braveheart Shield for 12 months. Well Done and here is your shield.
