Draft Information and rules.
Draft start Friday 28th November 9:00am Fan Footy Clock time.

Coaches have 24 hours offline, or 2 hours online in which to make their selections, after the previous selection is made.  This will be enforced by the league administrator and discretion can be used where appropriate. If you do not pick within required time you will be skipped. You will continue to be skipped until you come on line and take all picks due to you from players remaining. You may elect to give a list of players to the Administrator if you so desire if you realise you may be away for a period.,

Only players from the National Draft will be available for this draft.

Although every effort will be made to keep OP to date please check posts to see any picks made after last update.

You are requested to PM next coach in the order to enable draft to keep moving.

If you do not intend using all 4 picks in this draft please specify in this thread so pass can be recorded.

Is that the final order? Doesnt go by positions after finals?

Bottom 10 will remain the same but top 8 will change dependent on finishing positions. Will adjust as finals are decided. just needed to get started before I get tied up in the next couple of weeks.

At this stage I'm definitely passing on my Round 4 pick (57). My second round pick (25) is being traded and so I'll have my first and third round picks plus two in the rookie draft.  :)

We traded Nat 12 to you in the Lycett deal

Confirming that you are correct SR - Will have picked up in due course as I do a final check prior to draft anyway to make sure.

Trade 2
Nottingham Hood give Luke Russell + Tom Langdon + Nat Pick 12
Blackpool Bunnies give Ben Griffiths + Scott Lycett

Trade 15
Bunnies give Nat #12
Hawks Give Ben Reid

Can be readjusted up to final lodgement KB.

Ringo mate Dragons have pick 40 not Bunnies  ;)

and while your at it we will be using picks 42 and 58 now after the WHE trade has changed our draft plans a bit so that should leave us 2 picks in the rookie draft as i count 40 on our list right now
Title: Re: 2014 National Draft Thread.

After delistings and stuff, it looks like I'll need to take 7 picks. That means I'm gonna need my 4th rounder again Ringo which I am no longer passing on.

Will be taking all four Nat picks and three Rookie picks.

Can someone remind me how many players we will need in total after drafting? Was looking for it but can't find it.

We currently have 35 and have 12 picks including Nat and Rookie. I'm guessing we won't need all of them?

Thanks mate. Looks like we won't be needing our two supplementary rookie picks then Ringo.

Just for clarification if you think you can get better picks in the Rookie draft for this year only you can pass on national Draft picks if desired. eg if you think you can get say a better 4th round pick in the rookie draft than with 4th pick in the National you can opt to pass on a pick and will be allocated a supplementary pick based on ladder finishing positions.

Hope that explains it but for this year only with the recycled draft.

Thanks for that - do we need to announce if we want to do this pre-draft or if it gets to our pick and there's no-one we like we can pass and take the rookie pick?

All the nat picks for the Giants are correct. There wont be any passing for us. We are likely to need anywhere up to 16 picks for both drafts combined. List and delistings to be finalised over the next week or so.

If passing is not nominated prior to start of draft and pick is passed during draft, then if pick is to be in supplementary draft picks will be added to the end of published supplementary draft picks. Do not think it is fair to push other teams down the rookie list who have already nominated to pass.

Good Morning coaches

Here is the number of players I currently have on lists together with total number of draft picks you have for the National and Rookie Draft. This is list as at midnight 24th November so trades to come and subsequent delistings will be updated.

Birmingham Dragons 39 players with 6 draft picks
Blackpool Bunnies  40 players with 5 draft picks
Bradford Badgers 41 players with 4 draft picks
Crosby Cruisers 36 players with 9 draft picks
Grope Lane Giants 31 players with 14 draft picks
Hastings Hurricanes 34 players with 11 draft picks
Hebden Bridge Hedgehogs 39 players with 6 draft picks
Huddersfield Hawks 36 players with 9 draft picks
Leeds Leaches 41 players with 4 draft picks (Jason Winderlich is showing as reired so may need to be reinstated if you wish)
Liverpool Rams  37 players with 8 draft picks.
Manchester Magic 43 players with 2 draft picks
Nottingham Hoods 37 players with 8 draft picks
Oxford Owls 41 players with 4 drafy picks
Staines Steins 33 players with 12 draft picks
Swansea Breakers 33 players with 12 draft picks
Winchester Werewolves 36 players with 9 draft picks

If these are not correct please PM me so we can verify lists

As all teams with the exception of Magic have at least 4 picks available I am proposing to start the National Draft at 9:00am on Friday Morning 28th November. Do not think it will create any problems by starting national Draft prior to the final de-listings.

You will still have the opportunity to de-list prior to national Draft if you want to take all  picks in that draft or you can nominate to pass,

Will then sort out Rookie Draft picks.

Does that mean that in theory someone could pick a player in the Nat draft and then subsequently delist them anyway?
Title: Re: 2014 National Draft Thread.
Post by: Ringo on November 25, 2014, 08:02:15 AM
In theory correct Nostra but why would you do this.  Delistings required in one week any way.

Delisted player will go onto the rookie draft list as well allowing other teams to pick him up as well.

Ringo I have 35 players on our list now with 12 picks. I'll check again and PM you but I did count the other day and this is what I came up with. If we only have 33 we might undelist someone.

Okay no you're right I had forgotten we had delisted Georgiou and I still had Cunningham on our list which makes 33.

hey Ringo what's the rule regarding co coaches and the time rules? like if one coach is online but doesn't pick in 2 hours do they get skipped or does they both need to be on?

just ask because i do the drafting mostly for Birmingham and we all know my sleeping patterns or lack of

I don't think that's really fair. I come on sometimes at work when its quietish, but it could only be fore 2 minutes and then I get called out and i'm gone for 3/4 hours.

unfortunately the rule needs to be in place as some people hold up the draft on purpose

It`s there so the draft doesn`t get held up and you'll find most if not all the other comps have this rule in place

that's fine lots of people are in similar situations with work and stuff

if it's only a couple of picks prior to yours you can always send a preference list to Ringo but don't have to lots of people don't pick until after work or whatever

was just letting you know how it works etc

The rules say at the discretion of the Administrator so in most cases I will err on the cautious side.

However what really grates when drafts are on people come on and post everywhere before they check the draft thread and in those cases will not be lenient,  When drafts are on it should be one of the first things you check when you come on and are allowed to for those who sneek looks at work.

I was wondering if coaches with high picks (across all XV comps) had decided on their preference.

If I had No.1 I'm fairly comfortable who I would pick :P Unfortunately I don't have it in any comps though :-\

I've got #2 and #4 in Euros and do have a fairly good idea of who I want and should get.

My only problem is I actually knew who I was getting until Holz went and traded N1 which he had and told me who he was getting, now nost/Rids have it and I'm clueless.  :(

The problem is this damn scoring system. So hard to tell which player will turn out better in the Sportal system as it's quite a bit different from others. That's assuming they run their game again next season and we don't have to swap to another system.

I can tell you this much - we certainly won't be picking a key position player at #1 :P

Well I can think of 1 player who would be most suited to this scoring type. But no clue if i'm allowed to say it. Shouldn't matter, he won't last until pick 9  :P

As all available draftees have been now listed in the OP

73 players were selected in the National Draft and with 2 confirmed passing we only need 65 selections so there will be 8 passing to rookie draft as well.

I am happy to start the draft now if all are happy as it may enable Rids to pick before he leaves.  Please remember to PM next coach on the list to try and keep draft moving.

Memph can pick when he is ready.

Thought long and hard about this one but, in the end it came down to the guy we think is the best player in this draft and for the scoring system despite the game of a few others looking like it will be good for Sportal as well.

The newest Staines Steins player is Christian Petracca.

For Grope Lanes last pick we'll take the smokey of the draft ..........Josh McGuiness

Medium defender who reads the game exceptionally well, has sure hands and uses the ball well by hand or foot on the rebound. Had impressive NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, winning All Australian honours after averaging 26 touches, five marks and three clearances at 85 per cent efficiency. Recorded 8.33 sec in agility run at NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Swansea Breakers will take Harris Andrews. This player was an academy selection for Brisbane and was bid for in third round forcing Brisbane to use its pick 61 to take him. Both Sawson and Andrews were bid for in the third round.

The breakers are very happy with their National Draft Selections:
Isaac Heeney
Peter Wright
Touk Miller
Dillon Viojo-Rainbow
Patrick McKenna
Harris Andrews

Breakers will be passing on Pick 64.

As I will be absent for rest of morning can you just check posts from here to avoid double ups.

Considering we finished last in this competition in 2014, behind the Giants I think we've got a good claim on the worst list in the BXV. Though NDT or maybe even now my Taiwan Dolphins probably takes the cake if you count other XV comps.

Crosby Cruisers draft summary;

#9. Hugh Goddard
#21. Darcy Moore
#44. Edward Vickers-Willis
#46. Zaine Cordy
#48. Clem Smith
#55. Josh Deluca-Cardillo

Happy with what i've gotten. Hopefully a few of these will be/become DPP.

At the same time, if any of them go on to be surprisingly good Sportal scorers, he'll look like a genius.  :P

Rams picked up:

#6 - Jayden Laverde
#35 - Dean Gore
#41 - Jack Lonie
#57 - Oscar McDonald

I don't think it's gonna have the success that last year's haul of Billings, Dunstan, Taylor and Brown will, but I'm pretty happy with that nonetheless.

Badgers ended up with:

#26 - Caleb Daniel
#28 - Billy Stretch
#54 - Daniel Howe

Pretty happy with that considering when I took over the team my highest pick was 48, and have now managed to get some good kids in

Think that all you want   ;) The 3 i've gotten I believe WILL be decent scorers. Just need to wait for them to mature. So worry about your own team there little butterfly.  ;D

For the final pick, Bailey dale from bullies.
Clever and effective with ball in hand, Dale has a proven goal nous, averaging 18 disposals in 20 games and kicking 14 goals for the Dandenong Stingrays at TAC Cup level.

Draft done!

BXV proves to be the most dominant by finishing the draft first. Pat yourselves on the back then think about the lives we all clearly don't have!

Thanks to all draft complete.

Time to turn attention to final de-listings due by December 3rd, I will then co-ordinate listings with picks available. And open draft when complete so keep an eye on Rookie draft thread for start time on either Thursday or Friday.

Interesting that Hedgehogs took all four picks despite saying National Draft is for losers. So they must be fearful of losing title.

Haha not too fearful Ringo :p We didn't have much of a choice after losing 10 players to delisting this year (we will update thread before December 3rd)

Fearful? Hardly. Wouldn't mind getting to the minimum list number though ;)

yeah but there's a ridiculous rule in place there, that gives no time restrictions on picks for the first week  >:(

Just want to say cheers to all for the quickness of this draft!

Personally this time of year is very busy so not having to monitor this is a huge help with my time management!

Cheers all.
