After a horrid 2018 (thanks Jacobs, Martin, Sicily Savage and many more  >:() looking to not repeat some of my mistakes from last season

DEF: Whitfield, Blakely, ZWilliams, Roberton, Collins, 123k (123k, 123k)
MID: Fyfe, Kelly, Neale, Crouch, Merrett, Libba, 123k, 123k (123k, 123k, 123k)
RUC: Grundy, Goldstein (102k)
FWD: Dangerfield, DSmith, Billings, Greene, Setterfield, 123k (123k, 123k)

So lets look at the choices
Defenders
Whitfield: Was absolutely massive last year playing off the half-back flank, didn't seem to slow down even when Wiliams was introduced back into the team, and even if he plays off a wing, he is a to good to ignore
Blakely: Given defender status this year but will almost certainly play midfield. Has shown he is very capable playng midfield in the past (check 2017) and will look to take that neale spot
ZWilliams: 400k for a 90+ averaging defender? Yes please! was gonna pick him last season at 520k but went down with an injury. Not going to back out of this one when he was able to play through finals fairly unscathed.
Roberton: Seems like he is tracking well and apparently should be with the main group soon (or maybe already is, haven't been keeping up). 300k for this absolute gun who before this year averages over 95, again too much value to ignore. *Brodie Smith may come in if Roberton is not ready for Round 1*
Collins: Mainly a placeholder but could be a good pick up to rise up in price if there aren't that many good rookies available

Midfielders
Fyfe: At this point we just pick him just because :P
Kelly: Contract year. When he came back from injury he was massive. No Shiel may mean he plays a bit more on the inside (but he already a gun anyway so doesn't matter where he plays). Liked him alot last year but bailed out of picking him. Won't back out this time.
Neale: My one POD for this year (my POD for last year was Oliver and that turned out amazing) because I know for a fact that he will be overlooked even though he most likely will average 110+ in a new team. .he last mids I have gotten who went to new teams (i.e Mitchell and Danger) have turned out well so I'm sure Neale won't fail me
Crouch: Underpriced 110 averaging mid who was hampered by injury last season
Zerrett: See Crouch.
Libba: Looks in good nick and will want to prove something this year. WIll hog those inside mid minutes (since he can't play anywhere else  ::)). At 300k he may be a great stepping stone or might even go premo.

Rucks
Grundy: Just a safe all around pick and does enough around the ground to get those high scores.
Goldstein: Averaged 110+ in the 2nd half of the season and with no Preuss should be fairly safe in terms of not having to share ruck duties.

Forwards
Danger: No justification needed here. Pick him plain and simple
Smith: Was shocked to see he received DPP but I'm not complaining, will pick him again this year as well
Billings: I know he burnt a few last year but when I got him in in the 2nd half of the season, along with St.Kilda he improved drastically. See him as a value pick and can see his form improving even further along with St.Kilda.
Greene: At 350k he is way too good not to have, he would need to not play Round 1 for me not to pick him.

Tell me what you guys think  :)

Well put together team PP.
Good rational for your selections.    Billings is capable of becoming a consistent 100+ scoring which is gold in FWDs not sure he will.   I have gone for Acres instead of Billings.   Greene is ? to play early if he has any other issues in preseason and makes if a no for me.
Agree on Crouch and Zerrett.   Z will have more freedom and shiel feeding him ball so see him going back to 110+.   Fit Crouch will rack up points and 110+ also.   Both are execellent value.

Goldy can go 110+ based on last half of 2018.   Hope he does.   Only puts you 10pts per week down on Gawn compare to 20 per week.   Dont see Goldy owners trading up to Gawn so he is a keeper for the year and you have find the other 220 points somewhere else.

Roberton is interesting and great value if free of injury.    Best of luck

Best team I've seen from a structural perspective, deep on every line and 14 keepers if Williams and Greene make it.
However, as you've only allocated 123k for each rookie you may have to downgrade 1 of those, barring the unlikely event we get blessed with heaps of cheap rookies.

Like most of your picks. BLAKELY is getting more popular by the day. Could be a trap, but those 2017 numbers when playing mid suggest otherwise.
On ROBERTON, will he be the main distributor from defence? Jimmy Webster and Savage are elite kicks, and Robbo has the size to play key position. These question marks sway me to Brodie Smith instead.

CROUCH was very mediocre and frustrating for me last season, seems to need 35-40 touches to hit 100, better suited to DT scoring. Having said that he has gone 110 before and is a tempting price.

MERRETT is firmly on my radar, think Sheil will free him up a bit and also well priced.

Are you comfortable not starting any of Titch, Cripps or Oliver? Think they'll drop in price? Hard to fault Fyfe or Kelly although the former is injury prone and the later is sure to cop no.1 tag sans Sheil. Who will you pair with Grundy for C/VC purposes?

WHITFIELD, GRUNDY and DANGER pick themselves and I have a feeling BILLINGS will burn everyone a second time, only this time for NOT picking him. Personally I can't go there straight up, if he proves himself above other options I'll glady pay extra to get him in.
Anyway great effort first up. Best of luck in 2019

Thanks for the advice, agree with Greene bit of a question mark in terms of his body but will see how he goes. In terms of replacements maybe a Daniher turning that spot into a stepping stone. Or maybe even better who I have had my eye on was Worpel who is almost 100% going to play mostly midfield. Had some big games as well and managed to get a 30+ disposal game in his first season which stood out to me.

Curious about your opinon on the whole Acres vs Billings debate (Mainly chose Billings because it seemed like he had better job security).

Thanks mate. In terms of not having Titch, Cripps and Oliver, funnily enough in my initial thoughts I had all 3 including Fyfe and Kelly/Macrae (up for debate) in my midfield. Titch can be substituted with Danger or Fyfe for Captain purposes. Titch would also need to average 130 to keep his current price and one bad/average score will bring his price down to around the 630k-650k price range. His price may also continue to drop if he becomes inconsistent.

Not having Cripps was mainly due to how he performs better later in the season so I should be able to pick him up after his bye (shown by the fact he averaged 103 before his bye). He has done this in his previous seasons as well so he should be a great upgrade target.

Oliver just had surgery on both shoulders which does not leave me with a lot of confidence in paying 620k for him. Even if he proves me wrong, his price doesnt deviate that much so his price shouldn't drastically increase.

The rookie situation is interesting but I'm banking on the fact that there SHOULD be at least 4 123k rookies on each line but that may be optimistic

After taking a bit of a break (1 month) have come back to revise my team a bit based on how different players are tracking.

Collins -> 123K rookie: Free up cash plus don't trust Dew with mature age recruits (Lyons and Barlow as evidence)

Goldstein -> Kreuzer: This is to free up cash. Even if Kreuzer stinks it up the first 2 weeks, can downgrade him to mummy when he comes back

Billings -> Heeney: Favourite non eagles player and can finally fit him in

Greene -> Wingard: Now that Titch is out feel as though he is a must have

team now looks like

DEF: Whitfield, Blakely, ZWilliams, Roberton, 123k, 123k (123k, Wigg)
MID: Fyfe, Kelly, Neale, Crouch, Merrett, Libba, 123k, 123k (123k, 123k, 123k)
RUC: Grundy, Kreuzer (102k)
FWD: Dangerfield, DSmith, Heeney, Wingard, Setterfield, 123k (123k, 117k)

That's a great looking side. Deep on all lines. Can't really fault selections, although I would prefer Dusty over Crouch, but each to their own. Kreuz is a risk but I'm sure you're aware of that.
I think however we'll be very lucky to have 13 rookies 123k or less so it may need tweaking when rookies are named.
