Imo when the punishment was handed down they should have been given the last pick of the first round this year irrespective of where they finished.

Too late to change anything now though, Essendon will have a damn good team as a result of all this in a few years time.

I've had a think about this, and this is where I sit as well

Yes Essendon have been punished enough, but getting the first pick this year detracts from that, and makes their punishment less impactful overall. They are not deserving of the first pick because their ladder position is not reflective of where their list actually stands.

Exactly, had they had the 12 suspended Bombers they would not have finished last.

This is why I'm glad Hibberd is leaving, would have loved for them to lose another key player :P

I can see where people are coming from but lets not forget who the bombers lost over this, Ryder, Carlisle and hibberd, monfries, crameri, melkshem

Ryder and carlisle in there prime are particularly hard to replace being key position and all

Ps. yes i cant spell names :P

haha I get that man, absolutely. Honestly Ryder and Carlisle are the only ones I rate that highly. The others are 100% off-set by he fact you've unearthed some gems this year - Dea looks good, Tippa looks great, Zerrett has stood up, Zaha has become a legit inside midfielder... plus pick 1. If I was a Bombers fan I'd be happy right now and excited about the year ahead!

Yes but imo that's not punishment, that's a direct result of what the club did to its players.

Of course not. This isn't their proper team. Why should they be rewarded over a team that is legitimately awful?

I don't mind Essendon getting Pick #1, besides, their 'main' team would have come last anyway  8)

oh yeah for sure, im excited! id much rather the root we are heading now, legit making a contender now. And from carlisle we got Francis. And Bird which i think im alone in loving him tbh. And from crameri i think we got Zerret? im not sure about that one.

I much prefer the path we are heading now but we still lost guys in there prime :P Blessing in disguise, helped by some great recruiting from the picks we did have :P

Thats good on the bombers for there recruiting though, cant say that they had an advantage by getting pick 26 :P

Crameri was vital to our forward line too, we still dont have much in the forward half :P

Also they didn't lose Monfries due to the drugs saga, he left before it was known by the public.

Essendon was the 4th worst team in the league in 2015 when equipped with a full list.

Then they lost a key player, Carlisle, that off-season.
No real indication they weren't heading for another bottom 4 finish this year, and there is no precedent for the returning players - they might have emotional or physical limitations from 12 months of complete alienation from the game.

There is a legitimate discussion to be had with Brisbane, they may well require pick 1 (priority), but I think more urgently they need financial support and proper counsel from the AFL. Similar to the intervention with Melbourne and the introduction of Roos.
Maybe Bomber Thompson would enjoy the mild winters in QLD.

What do you mean? I'm talking about the actual players here, who would know what actually happened because it happened to them, and if they decide to leave the club because of that then that's up to them, that's not a punishment, they're leaving because of what the club really did to them, not what the club 'is assumed to have done'.
