SC Elxam Champs League (2013-2017)

« on: October 07, 2016, 07:43:54 PM »

Bit bored...bloody off season...
There's been plenty of these over the years... some inspirational, some funny and some just plain dumb.
Here's some of my faves...

Jack Dyer... "Retaliate first"
Jack Dyer... "He's a good ordinary footballer" on Peter Busastow
Jack Dyer... "His arms rose up like two giant testicles" on Mark Lee.
Jack Dyer... ""An Essendon supporter is a Collingwood supporter that has money"
Jack Dyer... "Things aren't the same now that there are five teams in the top four"
Jack Dyer...  "I want you to pair off in threes"
Jack Dyer... ""A bit of bad luck for Bob." (on the death of former Carlton champ Bob Chitty)
Jack Dyer...  "I won't say anything in case I say something."
Mick Malthouse... "The Ox is slow but the earth is patient"
Mick Malthouse... 'The meek may inherit the earth - but they will never win games of football.'
Ted Whitten... "Winners are grinners and losers can please themselves"
Ted Whitten... "We stuck it right up 'em!"
Ted Whitten... "It's got to be a do or die effort. It's got to be a determined effort. You've got to show me all the guts and determination you've got in your body. You've got to inspire me with this last quarter finish. You've been in front all day and you've got to stay there. Now are you going to sit there and let them take it away from us?!?!?"
John Kennedy..."Don't think...DO!"
Allan Jeans... "Footballers are like sausages ... you can fry them, grill them, bake them ... they're still sausages"
Allan Jeans... "You're lucky you're getting a kick, son" to Dermott Brereton when he turned up to pre-season training with blonde hair and green boots.
Allan Jeans was asked why he didn't order John Platten to have his Tiny Tim locks cut to more conventional length and appropriate style in the 1980s...."I would if he couldn't play"
Allan Jeans... "You've got 25 minutes to make a name for your self, like you've never made before" at 3/4 time in the 1966 GF.
Kevin "Cowboy" Neale...."You can't kick goals if you're unconscious" in reference to Allan Jeans stating St.Kilda would need to concede Peter Hudson 5 or 6 goals in the 1966 grand final... Neale did indeed give Hudson a round arm punch to the face that Hudson says he did suffer concussion from...he only kicked 3 goals for the game, two in the opening term before the incident....later missing some shots that were ordinarily certainties by his usual standards, meaning he only tied Bob Pratt's all time record of 150 goals in a season which still stands to this day.
(Garry Lyon) "Have you ever thought of writing your autobiography?” (David Swartz) "On what?"
Dermott Brereton... "Well, either side could win it, or it could be a draw.”
Andrew Demetriou... "If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again."

LOL nothing can beat that Cloke quote - so good!

"If Jarrad Grant’s not the best player after them (No.1 draft pick Matthew Kreuzer and No.2 Trent Cotchin), then I’ll swim to Williamstown from here” - Bulldogs recruiter Scott Clayton after the 2007 draft. Players taken after Grant include Cyril Rioli and Patrick Dangerfield.
