Just realised that I’ll be signing a CA contract to umpire in the country champs next month, which means I’m probably not able to win any prizes should I be good enough (not that I’ve ever been close before, but it is a reason why I play). So I’ll probavly not do this as seriously.

So the Heat also signed Yasir Shah as an international replacement. If Shadab Khan gets called up for Pakistan, Yasir Shah is one to consider.

Alright, finally settled on what I reckon my side will be to begin with.

Finch, Watson, Maxwell, Head, Peirson (Cartwright, Gibson)
Dunk (Carey)
Abbott, Shadab, Hastings, Nabi, McKay (Floros, Paris)

$14,700 remaining.

And to follow the trend, I'll explain.

Finch: Opens, bowls himself, decent fielder and obviously can hit it a long way.
Watson: Mainly have him because of the Thunder having the DGW, not because I want him. Probably captain first round. Likely to turn into McCullum in Round 2 at this stage.
Maxwell: Bae. Can bat, can bowl, can field. Good for a solid handful of points most weeks.
Head: When he's in form, he's hard to stop. Bowls occasionally as well. Nice price for what he can do.
Peirson: Cheaper than he should be, gloves every game, will open.
Cartwright: Bats and bowls and should get a good go this time around to score well, cheap too.
Gibson: Him or Blizz is a coin flip, I like what I've seen from this fella enough to back him in. Can't go too wrong for 30k.

Dunk: Due for a strong campaign. Has the tools to rack up points, fairly certain that he will keep and open with Luke Wright.
Carey: Likely to open with Weatherald and is nice and cheap.

Abbott: Expensive yes, but he gets points very easily. Back him in for the wickets he'll take more so than anything.
Shadab: Kid is a gun and given the locals wouldn't have seen a lot of him, that makes his dangerous. Reasonable price.
Hastings: Looks good and priced nicely for what he's capable of so I'm all in.
Nabi: Great price. Should get at least 3 overs every game and more than capable with bat in hand also.
McKay: Takes wickets and is a pretty decent price, plus with the Thunder DGW he's gotta get a handy score this round.
Floros: I feel dirty for having this bloke but he's cheap, the Heat seem to love him and always play him and he actually bats and bowls.
Paris: Cheap, gun, will take wickets.

Made some changes to my team

Finch, Watson, Maxwell, McCullum, Head (Carey, Cartwright)
Pierson (Inglis)
Abbott, Bravo, McClenaghan, Nabi, McKay, (Bird, Paris)

Can loophole Pierson and Carey in Rd.1 and also Bird and Nabi. Got the 6 big guns in there but means McKay finds his way back in.

Surely with a DGW he can at least put up a decent score, right?.............right?

Two bits of information from the last few days.

- Matthew Wade batted at 4 in the Hurricane's practice match against the Thunder the other day. Doolan & Short opened.

- Jackson Bird has been released from the Test team for the Sydney Smash, could be a bench option now.

I have played previously but have joined a super competitive comp this year and would appreciate some feedback on my team please.

Batters:
Finch, Mccullum, head, Pierson, Blizzard (Wiley, Carey)

Keepers:
Butler (Inglis)

Bowlers:
Watson, Maxwell, McClenaghan, Faulkner, Bird (Paris, Valente)

$33.5k left in the bank.

Notes on a couple of my selections:
Blizzard - if he opens the batting at that price it’s a no brainer plus the DG in round 1. If he doesn’t open then I’ll look at other options
McClenaghan - good value and should be thunders number 1 bowler this season. T20 specialist. Plus has the DG in round 1.
Faulkner - backing him in to get back to his best
Valente - but risky but think he is a chance with the heat not having a lot of choice after cutting and Steketee

Bird now being held with the Test team as Starc has a bruised heel :(

Hey mate, welcome!

I think its a big call having someone like Willey sitting on the bench for the first GW, you need to weigh up whether that cash could be beneficial across the rest of the squad, or whether you're going to load up on players for DGW2. Only a call you can make though.

I have the same thought process as you on Blizzard, however not seeing him present for the practice match has me concerned. Hasn't been in great form for the ACT and not sure he'll grab that spot.

Have made my thoughts known on McClenaghan earlier, hope the pick works for those taking the punt.

Faulkner hard to ignore at that price, but won't bat above 7-8 so keep that in mind.

Valente probably behind Lalor & Doggett but can see the thought process. I'd expect the Heat to use Steketee/Cutting for their pace and Shadab/Swepson for spin. Whether they take in one of Lalor/Doggett/Valente or bat deep and chuck the ball to Labuschagne remains to be seen. Floros is also another AR option for the Heat.

Bird is now back with the Test team because of an injury to Starc, so you can rule that one out my friend.

Hope it goes well for you!

The Sydney Sixers have announced their first squad to take on the Sydney Thunder in the Sydney Smash tomorrow night at Spotless Stadium.

Added to the squad is Daniel Sams, who has been brought in as a replacement for Henry Thornton, ruled out of the tournament through injury, and Harry Conway who has been brought into the squad as a replacement for Mitch Starc, currently on national duty with the Australian Men’s team.

Thunder I'm not sure about, could always drop Blizzard/Gibson and play the extra bowling option. Sixers I think is fairly straightforward.

So no Mckay :-\

From your predicted XI above, who do you see bowling the last 4 overs for the Sixers if, as reported, Henriques isn't going to bowl because of his injury?

Just noticed no McKay also.  :-[

Actually that is a very good point you raise Rusty. Could potentially see Silk drop out and one of Conway/Sams come in if that's the case?

The more I look at the Thunder team the more it looks completely wrong to me and I realise I have zero idea what I'm talking about. It's really anyones guess how that batting lineup lines up in a days time.

Fekete and McAndrew aren't available to be selected on the Fantasy BBL site, yet.
