Have decided to put up some draft team to try to get to Elxam league as well as Silverlions and welcome any feedback and suggestions:

Backs - (Keepers) Laird, Hurley (subject to injury), ZWilliams (or Witherden), (Midrange) Birchall, (Placeholders) Doedee (hope this guy plays as nearly every team has him), Gardner, Cumming, Morgan
Mids - (Keepers) Danger, Martin, Mitchell, MCrouch, Fyfe, Coniglio, (Midrange) O'Meara, LDU, (Placeholders) Worpel, Powell, TKelly
Rucks - (Keepers) Gawn, Naitanui, Hayes
Forwards - (Keepers) Billings, Lobb, Robinson, (Placeholders) Battle, Venables, LRyan, Ahern, WRioli

Cash remaining $5,200 Byes 2,8,10,10 - Keepers byes 3,6,6

Have put Billings in front of Heeney due to Heeney's injury and St Kilda's favourable start to the season
Have put Coniglio in front of Cripps for cost savings, allowing me to get JOM, but could swap Coniglio and JOM for Cripps and Dow, depending on pre-season form and how Cripps and JOM recover from injuries
There are a number of West Coast rookies, so will be interested to hear from West Coast supporters on their thoughts

Question - do you go deeper in Forwards than 3 keepers and no midrange (so exclude McCluggage, who I think will do a COliver) or deeper in Backs with Birchall or Bonner?

Your thoughts?

Cripps and Dow over Coniglio and O'meara for me.

Although Conigio and O'meara will score more at the start of the season I can almost guarantee you they will average around 100 each which is not enough to be a keeper but because other problems which are more important will arise you will pretty much be stuck with them for a whole season. And that's assuming O'meara stays healthy.

Cripps will score 105 minimum and is a good chance of going 110+ (top 10 territory) and Dow (Or another rookie) will generate a lot of cash.

Like the team but think the forward should bat one deeper even if it is an Ah Chee or Bennell type.

Good start Peter I'd keep Coniglio maybe dump O'meara and stick a rookie in and upgrade to another gun in the FWD's maybe Greene or Heeney if fit but good team to start up with .... go for it mate the more teams in ELXAM the better ;)

Agree with this. JOM was no good this year so dump him and strengthen elsewhere by getting another rookie in his place.
Would also like to see you involved in Elxam. Good luck.  :)

Ok Revision No 1

Backs - (Keepers) Laird, Hurley (subject to injury), ZWilliams (or Witherden), (Midrange) Birchall, (Placeholders) Doedee (hope this guy plays as nearly every team has him), Gardner, Cumming, Morgan
Mids - (Keepers) Danger, Martin, Mitchell, MCrouch, Fyfe, Cripps,  (Midrange) Dow, LDU, (Placeholders) Worpel, Fogarty, TKelly
Rucks - (Keepers) Gawn, Naitanui, Hayes
Forwards - (Keepers) Billings, Robinson, Lobb, (Placeholders) Battle, Venables, LRyan, Ahern, WRioli

Cash remaining $10,800 Byes 1,9,9,11 - Keepers byes 3,5,6

As MS has said, stronger keeper in Cripps over Coniglio as No 1 mid at Carlton, as well as two rookies that should be pretty certain to play in Dow and LDU

Roll on pre-season

Lot of people on the Cripps bandwagon he had a very good 2016 but only avg 97-98 this year before his season finished with injury no doubt he will be a gun but not 100% he is as much of a lock as everyone thinks ?

Cripps currently isn't in my side but im sure as round 1 gets closer he will be.

This is his first full pre season ... EVER! he has already averaged above 105 before and that was two years ago when he wasn't even close to reaching his prime. Murphy will cop the tag first and Cripps will be a beast.

Yeah agree he will be good but Coniglio also avg. 105 the year before for about 80K cheaper in a team that will win more games , Hannebery struggled with his body this year previous 2 years 113 avg. for 5K less in a team that will also win more games .... Cripps needs to show me he can do it before I jump on board  ;)

I am torn between the Cripps/Coniglio choice, but upon reflection, at this stage, I think Coniglio will have competition for points at GWS, while they are winning games from Kelly, Whitfield, Ward and Taranto, whilst Cripps will only have Murphy and Kennedy. Also Cripps has the advantage of being able to go forward and play the Danger/Martin/Fyfe role. Docherty had huge points at Carlton last season whilst they weren't winning games. Hannebery has the same issue at Sydney with Parker, Kennedy, Jack, Mills, Heeney etc. I think Hannebery did rotate forward last season with Parker, which is why their points were down as they don't have the same size as the three I mentioned above and Sydney also has Franklin and Reid as first choice marking option.

Anyway early days yet, plenty of preseason injuries to come which will change most teams

Not a fan Pete of this theory that players lose points because of other good players in the same team if a player is good enough , a gun , a premo , a pig they will score well no matter what so out of Cripps , Coniglio , Hanners I will be going Hanners because he has done it higher and longer than the others and you are correct it is very early but these posts still add to your quest for elxam  :P

Good side, few risky selections there that could pay off in Lobb, Robinson, O' Meara. Overall, well balanced and structured side. Good side to sit on until the JLT :)

Have taken the risk out by switching Heeney and Ah Chee for Robinson and Lobb freeing up a little more cash and little change to bye structures.

Bring on JLT

I think there is good value in the fwd line this year Peter, and the change you have made is less riskier than previous.. Nice side. I'm thinking of also taking value in the mids this year. Very much against the grain, but might give it run, depending on where the rookies turn up.
