Very good point, you can always bring him after R2 and will cost less than the premium you have chosen

Would you trade a non-injured mid for Cripps after 2 rounds though? :P

I don't think I could haha

NEVER completed a full pre season
#1 clearance player in the AFL
Averages 17 contested possies per gam
^^ CD jizz over those type of players
Carlton are an up and coming side
Will never get tagged because Smurf is on the team
Is currently enjoying his first full pre season and is injury free

Going into his fifth year. Averaged 108 in 2016 with a 124 average over the last two months and last year averaged 103 without his injury game. Statistically always improves as the season goes on

I think with him required to do more heavy lifting with gibbs now gone and taking the mantle as their head and above #1 mid going into his 5th year and at his age with a very good history behind him

110+ is what I expect. Has a good bye and have you seen their draw? Easy as piss. Dogs, Suns, Pies, Crows x2

Beat me to it wato.
I'm all over Cripps and am not buying the rubbish some are selling. At $537k he's a great buy. Locked in my team.

He has the R12bye... shared with Titch, MM, Bont and really no one else mid worthy. For me it's Titch and Cripps. Across other positions you might look at NicNat, Kreuzer, Dahlhaus, Simpson and I don't know who else... there may be some others from Haw, WCE, Carl and WB but you get the point... for balance across the byes he's an excellent option to start with.

Before he got injured his preceding three SC scores were: 114, 134 and 126. Yes he had 3 scores before that where he didn't score 100 but before that he scored 157 and before that more 100s. His last 8 games of 2016 were 100+s with most of those big ones at that. He wins his own ball and is one of the best clearance players in the AFL. He is currently enjoying his first full pre season.

Docherty scored 2524 pts last year...there's an extra 500pts conservatively up for grabs right there. Gibbs scored 2253pts...ranked 19th overall last year... who are Carlton's players that will feature at the top of SC scoring each week and get the lion's share of what's on offer in their absence.... Cripps, Krueuzer, MM and Simmo that's who.

I can see him scoring 110+ average easily. He's a bargain not to be missed. He's 40k cheaper than Bont. Yes Bont is a good buy too but I'd rather have Cripps and 40k to use elsewhere. Jelwood has been mentioned in this thread too but he's 25k more and probably more importantly shares the R14 bye with plenty of preferred SC options including Danger, Fyfe and Dusty. Zerrett is 63k more. No thanks and no thanks. The swans around the same price... they aren't as appealing to me... they're on the slide rather than on the up IMO and their opening draw is tough. Carlton's opening draw with 5 of the first 6 in Melbourne and only two of those against 2017 finalists is also more appealing.

You'd have to be a no brainer to pick Bont with Stringer, Cloke and Crameri gone. Wonder where he'll spend a bit more time. Boyd is only elite in finals, Schache could spud. Tory Dickson as a cow is alright but the forward line is poor and Jong won't cut it as the 2nd tall.

These are the exact thoughts that are stopping me picking him at the moment.
He gets scored and scales amazingly by CD but the doggies struggled for scoring options last year
and the cupboard is even bearer this season, i haven't read positive things about Schache and he is
too young anyway to be expected to have a massive impact.

The Bont will explode one year, but coaches do not cater to fantasy coaches, and the facts are simple.
Dogs have plenty of solid mids, especially if Libba returns to form, and few consistent forward options.

Doubt the doggies would put there best midfielder in the forward line unless it is to give him a break. No point in having him forward if the dogs are going to get smashed every clearance.

Redpath
Boyd
Trengrove
Roughead

are all capable of playing as a tall forward at the top level and you only need two of them.

You also have an abudance of the small/medium forwards that will rotate between midfield/forward.

Dahlhous, McLean, Hunter, Macrae, Jong, Dickson etc.
Agree MS can't see Bont's role changing at all to good in the mids to be plonked in the FWD's for long periods

I keep reading all over fooball sites that this is exactly what the Doggies did in the second half of last season, sat him up forward
for chunks of games and that is why his SC scores dropped sharply in the second half of the year.

Can anyone confirm that this did not actually happen, if so how did his scores decline so much?
Read he scored something like 112 first half and 98 in the second half of the season, that's a large drop for such a good midfielder.

Yes he probably spent some more time forward in the second half of the season probably because Boyd was out and there season was going down the toilet the coach would have tried different things and it did not help them having him there he did not turn into a game winner by being in the forwards but as been said they have picked up 2 more talls Boyd should be back and the midfield is where Bont is most damaging I'm sure the coach knows that as well  ;)

It has also been reported that Bont was carrying an injury in the latter part of the season too. He's priced well and is a good pick. I just like Cripps more.

True EZ I have Bont in there ATM but no certainty to start him and won't start Cripps but every year we see all this rubbish Pendles is going to play down back last year I think it was Martin was going to be used in the FWD's now Bont is going to be a forward I have seen comments that Parker Hannebery are on the slide at 26 and 27 ha ha just a normal pre SC year  ;D

The 500 points from Docherty and 200 from Gibbs will mainly go to Cripps and Kennedy from GWS. The others, being Simpson, Kruezer, Murphy are already scoring at their peaks in 2017 - a nobrainer to select Cripps

Not saying he is bad but he certainly isnt a no brainer.

Danger Dmart Titchell are that tier up in the captain category.

Fyfe has shown he can join that category when healthy.
Pendles has been in that category all but last year.

Then Neale Sloane Zorko Selwood have all been in that 105-110 zone frequently when healthy.

Matt Crouch went 120+ in the back half of the year

Bont has shown capable of being 105ish but has the upside to go huge and take it to the new level.

Then you have the new kids on the block Kelly and Oliver who  where amazing last year.

then the biggest wildcard of them all Ablett.

There are only 4-6 starting mid premo spots you can pick.

That isn't how it works

Team    Average Points
Adelaide   1716.590909
GWS Giants   1704.5
Essendon   1693.590909
Geelong   1688.909091
Collingwood   1683.454545
Port Adelaide   1675.363636
Melbourne   1674.818182
Sydney   1673.272727
St Kilda   1669.681818
Richmond   1655.954545
Western Bulldogs   1649.681818
Hawthorn   1646.409091
West Coast   1641.090909
Carlton   1615.136364
Gold Coast   1602.272727
North Melbourne   1589.454545
Brisbane   1575.5
Fremantle   1546.636364

Not all teams are equal in the amount of point that they will get. Yes each match is scaled to 3200-3300 points approx., but this balances over the course of a season.
Just because 1 player scores well doesn't mean those points will be spread out to others. Factor in natural growth, replacement players and the points could easily be covered by that alone.

I take your point LS, but I think Carlton are different in that they want the ball in certain players hands because those players skills are so superior to the bottom 10 of the Blues. That is why I think the top players will continue to score high. The Kangaroos are down the bottom and they don’t have regularly high scoring SC players because they don’t have highly skilled players (at this point). Only when Higgins got going in 2017 did they get some points. Their best player Cunnington isn’t in the top 30-40 scoring SC or RDT players. Just my opinion
