The 500 points from Docherty and 200 from Gibbs will mainly go to Cripps and Kennedy from GWS. The others, being Simpson, Kruezer, Murphy are already scoring at their peaks in 2017 - a nobrainer to select Cripps

Not saying he is bad but he certainly isnt a no brainer.

Danger Dmart Titchell are that tier up in the captain category.

Fyfe has shown he can join that category when healthy.
Pendles has been in that category all but last year.

Then Neale Sloane Zorko Selwood have all been in that 105-110 zone frequently when healthy.

Matt Crouch went 120+ in the back half of the year

Bont has shown capable of being 105ish but has the upside to go huge and take it to the new level.

Then you have the new kids on the block Kelly and Oliver who  where amazing last year.

then the biggest wildcard of them all Ablett.

There are only 4-6 starting mid premo spots you can pick.
Good summary,  of that Neale Sloane Selwood and Zorko group only Neale is worth consideration as a starter.  Others can all be picked up mid season at better value.   Cripps more upside that most of them but also more downside.

Wanted to give this thread a bump and get the discussion going again

I've had Cripps in my side but I think part of why I have him is because I'm following the crowd

No doubt Cripps is a beast, and he has a pretty big ceiling too but the more I think about it the more I think he's priced awkwardly

I mean, just for a little more you can get Beams, Jelwood, Bont and Pendles, but even more so for a massive 80k less there's the likes of Conigs, Prestia and Libba so I actually think Cripps is priced in no mans land because I'd rather spend a bit more for an out and out proven gun or save a bunch by getting one of the latter 3

Thoughts?

Haven't touched him so far, and don't plan on doing so unless he is averaging like 110+ over the first half of the season.

Of the players you mentioned though I see Cripps as second only to Beams.
Beams has been a favourite of mine for years. He's a SC pig and he's an automatic selection in my team.
Jelwood and Pendles have been great for years but for some reason I just see them on the downward spiral. Perhaps in Selwood's case it's due to GAJ's arrival and with Danger and Duncan there as well he's just another cog. Add in his injury/ concussion games that happen with him and the run of low scores that he produces around early to mid season and my appeal wanes. In Pendle's case I'm put off by his 2017 season and how Buckley may throw him back or forward in games. Bont had a disappointing finish to 2017 but was battling injury. He's on the up, being younger, like Cripps. But Cripps is cheaper. Cripps appeals for other reasons... no Gibbs now, Docherty out for the year and he's absolutely crucial. Murphy is the one teams may look to tag whilst Cripps will just continue to be a bull.
Coniglio, Libba and Prestia may prove to be good picks but will they score as many SC points as Cripps. I don't think they will.
Cripps is locked in my team.
Another box Cripps ticks is that he has the R12 bye (shared with only Bont in the names above).

If Beams can stay fit he would have too be the best pick out of the lot.

Cripps and Bont could both take it to the next level this season but Cripps is cheaper and probably just as capable.

Selwood is underpriced (due to injury game) so could be a decent selection.

Pendles I just don't trust anymore mainly due to Buckley.

Beams > Bont/Cripps > Jelwood/Pendles

Yeah OK but 2017 before injured not so good I know all the talk no preseason and that but the fact is he's avg. was 97 I'm just not in that much of a hurry to get him in my team mainly because there are so many good mids with much lower % ownership , I might be kicking myself for not starting him or I might not be  ;)

Yeah he did have a stress reaction in his back that kept him off the track for a large chunk of the 2017pre-season and in round 2
he suffered a fractured jaw against Melbourne. Two good reasons for his slowish start. His three games immediately prior to his injury suggested that maybe he was about to cement his place as one of the competition's true elite.
No player has had more contested possessions or clearances after their first 50 games than Patrick Cripps.

Cripps is discounted due to the injury game, should be the same price as the others you mention. His form leading up to the injury was every bit premo output. Can see him averaging 110 this year.

Crippa had an injury interrupted pre season last year which saw him get off to a slow start, then he got hit in the jaw by Lewis which saw it fractured. After he broke his leg it was revealed he was playing with badly damaged ribs for about 6 weeks. With all this happening he still averaged 103 (without injury score). Currently he is having a full pre-season and it will be his first full pre-season that he has completed. If he continues uninterrupted and starts the season 100% fit I'd be expecting form similar to his back end of 2016. This would see him go 110+ maybe even 115+.

When I see him in 95% of teams it makes me look for an alternative POD. But his price, his bye, first full preseason,no Gibbs and his contested game make me realise he's popular for a reason.
