Supercoach Stud on Heat

« Reply #15 on: February 05, 2018, 11:44:03 AM »

There's 20+ mids who could finish the season as a Top 8

Picking any of them with low ownership is a POD

That's the type of POD that works - not the mid pricer with hope of turning elite - they're the ones to stay away from

That's exactly what Oliver was at the start of the last season. I cannot say I saw that season he had coming, can you? He maybe just a one off freak though.

Except if you picked Kelly as well you got the goose with the golden egg... Everyone looks for the bargain pick that finishes as a keeper, so while people waste trades and money trying to get them in, you're always one step ahead. That's the name of the game
The problem with this is that the people who look for the Cheaper prem that become a keeper will normally take 2-3 of them. One might make it the others don't and you are either stuck with underperforming premiums or wasting more trades getting them out than if you trade the one good one in.

Im all for PODs, but they need to have reason behind them.
For example taking a POD ruck over Nic Nat, or a POD mid over Cripps/Martin is fine, but you need them to be a solid and correct pick as if it doesn't work you lose ground on the pack.

I've looked at Zac too. What do you see him averaging? 90-95? Is that enough? With Danger,Gaz,Jelwood,Duncan,Menegola and Tuohy getting decent scores as well?

I haven't thought of it like that and I Probably should have in hindsight.

Danger 120
Duncan 110
GAJ 105
Selwood 105
Smith 95
Tuohy 90
Menegola 85

Surely having Danger, Duncan, God and Selwood at your feet would only help your scores as a ruck???

Looking at JJ in defence but worried he might be tagged/targeted again. HOULI is durable with a decent ceiling should be safe as potential D6. PRESTIA  showed awesome form and scores late last season.
BARLOW/HANLEY have been discussed and have the ability, but in such a weak team and Swallow,Lyons,Hall,Weller etc. and "only" Gaz to replace who will score well?

If I am tossing up between a couple of players I look at ownership % if I believe player will be in Top 8/10. Ownership is a fair guide despite what is said on FF.  eg A lot of people on FF say they are going with the Gawn Jacobs ruck combo. Gawn has 56% ownership but would you believe that Jacobs has only 4% so currently a POD for us.
Lobb is another interesting one with only 5% ownership.
Just saying in my opinion a POD is someone who you believe will be Top 8/10 in the position with lower than a 10% ownership.

I was only looking this morning in disbelief at their ownership.

Savage is one of my main PODs atm. Only in 0.4% of teams. As long as he keeps up his form from last 8 weeks, I think a 95+ avg is on the cards.

You do realise he averaged 91.4 last season and finished the year with scores of 133, 119, 80, 103, 103 in the regular season and then scored 87, 118 and 71 in the finals???

Don't think it is that unrealistic for him to average 95.

It's not the Geelong premiums you should be worried about, it's Rhys Stanley you should be worried about.

Smith averaged 91.3 last season but in the 7 games that Smith and Stanley played together, Smith averaged just 75.7.

Thats why Jacobs is appealing, almost zero chance of another ruck playing with him. Gawn and Paddy are probably the only two I would confidently say that for. Even Kreuzer has a small risk attached this year with Lobbe and Phillips

Is Stanley even in Geelong's best 22 though? If he is then I will defintely need to reconsider Smith.

Longer is someone I am also considering, He is cheap and should make money and then trade to a cheaper Ryder after the byes?

Stanley isn't a lock in the best 22 but thats the problem, you just don't know when they will give him a crack for 2-3 games and kill Smith's output

Yeah thats fair enough and defintely something to consider.

Not sure about Buzza's, impact he was starting to get favoured over Stanley in the last few rounds
Feel like he is a better forward so he probably wouldn't hurt Smith's scoring as much as Stanley

Either way there is enough doubt there for me to not consider Smith, Gawn/Jacobs for me at the moment
