Getting in early as always, keen to redeem myself after a poor year last year :-X

First Draft:

D: Laird, Jor. Dawson (F), Docherty, Doedee, Roberton, Rivers (M) (Worrell (F), Bianco (M))
M: Fyfe, Cripps, Mitchell, Dangerfield, Oliver, Rowell, Henry (F), M Pickett (Smith (F), Maginness, Sharp)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Cameron (F))
F: Whitfield (M), Martin (M), D Smith (M), S Hill (D), Rankine, King (McAdam, Budarick (M))

6.5k in the bank.

Rookies obviously placeholders for now.

Defence: Laird is my first picked every year, he had a lean year last year but you know he'll be a top 6-10 defender and is a safe pick IMO. Dawson averaged 86 last year in his first full season and I reckon will only get better, and he offers D/F DPP which is handy. Docherty, Doedee, Roberton all locks at their prices if they play round one.

Midfielders: All of Fyfe, Cripps, Mitchell, Dangerfield pick themselves really. I might go Neale/Macrae over Oliver if I have leftover cash.

Rucks: As above, Gawn and Grundy pick themselves.

Forwards: As above, Whitfield and Martin pick themselves. Dev and S Hill are also definitely underpriced for what they can produce, and I think I'll be happy to punt on them if they get named round one. Steven and Franklin are other options I'll look at as well.

Changes from initial draft:

Titch --> Neale
Danger --> JKelly
Doedee --> Noble

Rookies adjusted to the more likely round 1 chances.

Titch I'm just not comfortable in starting, coming off a full season out there's added risk in selecting him over others at his price that can be avoided. Neale we know what we'll get from week in, week out.

Danger to Kelly is gut feel really. Could end up picking either, but don't mind Kelly's upside and PoD factor.

Doedee obviously out injured, and I rate Noble as a good prospect down back and is cheap.

Unfortunately can't find room for Greenwood, Houston or MacPherson, all of which I'd also really like to pick.

nice team SL,  Noble looked like a player not sure of his JS though.  Personally not keen on Fyfe and Kelly as keepers, definite SuperPrem, though they are likely to miss games during the season.    Also like Greenwood, Houston, see Macpherson as much larger punt compared to the first two.

Very strong, Silver Lion. Almost too strong!!

At a glance, we have similar teams, but I'm left scratching my head how you have 3 better ultra-premium mids than me... and where you have Whitfield, I have Heeney.

The difference is the amount of cash I've invested in the Rookies.

Clearly, your on-field team is going to outscore mine... so I look at it with envy.

What's your level of confidence with your Rookies? I don't mean the individual players... I mean the amount of money you've spent on them. Without scraping any more cash from your premiums, do you believe by the end of Marsh 2 you'll have 12 Rookies that will be solid cash cows?

From a premium pov - and this is a personal thing - I'd like to see one bulldog in that midfield line-up i.e. Fyfe / Neale - Macrae; or Kelly - Bont. But that's just me, neither here nor there :)

Good luck for the season!

Cheers crowls.

I've mentioned it in the Defenders thread with the Pies, I feel they've got 5 defenders locked in their 22 in Crisp, Maynard, Howe, Roughead and Moore, which likely leaves 2 spots up for grabs for the likes of Noble, Scharenberg, Quaynor to compete for. At this stage I reckon he gets the nod. Got Ash as the fallback option if I need him though ;) . Agree regarding Fyfe and JKelly, I'll probably find it hard to start both. Also, MacPherson is just a favourite of mine, I don't think Id have the guts to pick him but I reckon he could have a great year. Same for Rozee for that matter.

Thanks Colley.

Regarding the rookies, it's tough to say. I've scraped every cent to put this side together, with only 2k in the bank and Brad Close at M11. There definitely feels like there's a smaller pool of rookies available this year than in years gone by, but there always seems to be enough to fill our sides come round 1, so I'm hopeful some more pop-up this week in the Marsh. In all likelihood I will have to cut some cash from a prem somewhere come round 1 though :-\.

And regarding the dogs mids, I do like all of the big 3, could easily end up with one of them in for Fyfe/Kelly. It's hard to go wrong with the top mids, so many good options to choose from :)

3.1k in the bank.

Changes:

DSmith --> MacPherson
Kelly --> Coniglio

and some rookie adjustments.

Basically its JKelly/Danger/Titch/Bont + Dev vs. Coniglio + MacPherson

Coniglio is about 40k underpriced due to his zero injury game last year, and has shown he's got a massive ceiling. Is not dissimilar from JKelly, and is 90k cheaper. Dev represents value up forward, but has always had a low ceiling, and with an uncertain role I struggle to see him averaging more that 85-90, so I don't think passing on him would be a big deal. This allows me to bring in MacPherson, who I think could be in for a great year.

The issue with this team I feel is that I've now got a risky prem on each line - Dawson, Coniglio and MacPherson; however, I think that's balanced by the rest of my prems being pretty much locks for top 6-10 in their positions (maybe Docherty is an exception, but too hard to pass on him at that price).

Some people would put Fyfe and Whitfield in that list too!
And Gawn is injured  ::) (really only 65SC from 41% game time - something MUST be wrong)

I like the team - my only real observation is that you have no DDP link for your forward and mids, all the DPPs are all sitting up front.

Love the direction you're taking your team.

Those players you mentioned may look risky in isolation, but for me risk is measured against the players you don't have... and the available premium options in defence and up front have massive queries around them. This is the season to give yourself permission get the likes of Dawson, MacPherson etc.

The only shift I'd like to see is Brander on the Forward Bench... to give you the flexibility to swing Dawson Forward and cover those Forward Rookies. That exposes Williams & Keane. I'd therefore downgrade Robertson to Ash, and upgrade Keane to Zerk-Thatcher.

Otherwise, I think you'll fly with this structure.

Nice one mate!

Cheers Colley.

Unfortunately with Hill going down and hardly any defender rookies looking likely for round 1, I've been forced into a bit of a rethink :-\

Personally, Im not a fan of Coniglio, he just isn't the consistency that I want from my starters.
While I haven't looked into Macpherson enough to know if ill go that path yet.

I think taking the 2 risks rather than 1 in D Smith is fine, but you need to have backup plans if Macpherson or Coniglio for example don't work, if you get stuck with them and they don't perform its pretty much season over.

Cheers LS. After some thinking over and looking at the rookies available, I've been forced to downgrade Dawson to Smith to fund the more expensive rookies down back.

Final side prior to Rd. 1 team announcements:

Changes:

Dawson --> DSmith
Cogs --> Titch

Titch could still easily be 4 or 5 other mids, really the only premium/keeper I'm still debating. Probably prefer him/Bont/Danger/JKelly over Cogs, but if I need a cash grab I still may go back to Cogs. I'm not overly keen on Smith, but he represents value and could score around the same as many of the other options for F5-6, and he helps save some cash.

Forced to go light down back, as don't want to play 3 rookies up forward, and the likes of Robbo/Noble/BZT look better than the fwd alternatives around their prices.

Team looks very strong.

How did you get T. GREENE for only $166K?  The rest of us have to pay $510K for him.
