Picks: 26, 27, 39, 45, 46, 64 (Cordy), 82
We may get a player or two with one of the picks in the 5 under 50 who is ready to go and deserving of being in the best team in round 1 but for now I'll give the starting team a bit of a look.

We've had 10 changes to the senior list (one rookie upgrade only), and we'll have 4 new rookies this year too. Huge turnover = opportunity

B: Wood, Roughead, Murphy
CF: Johannisen, Morris, Picken
C: Hrovat, Wallis, Macrae
HF: Stevens, Crameri, Bontempelli
F: Stringer, Boyd, Dahlhaus
R: Minson, Liberatore, Boyd
I: Grant, Jong, Honeychurch, Hunter

Key backs Talia and Roberts are developing nicely in the VFL and they will get exposure at AFL level at some point. Z. Cordy is skinnyish but might get a few games as the 3rd tall defender. Depending on if we need to play tall, Picken can move out and play midfield, pushing one of the bench players out of the team.

Small backs Darley and Biggs are depth players. Pearce and Fuller miles off.

Cooney out means Hrovat should play 22 as a genuine mid. IMO he was just as impressive as Cooney this year anyway. Jong dominates VFL and his big body + speed will see him get lots of mid stoppage time due to Griff joining in the Cal Ward double cross, sabotaging the Giants in the 2018 grand final and making it 24 of ours vs 20 of theirs.
Clay Smith is best 22 but sitting out most of the year with his second ACL.
There's not many genuine mids not named in the 22 waiting in the wings, except Prudden who is a long way off a debut. We've got lots of forwards so some of them might be due for more mid time. Stringer, Dahlhaus, Hunter and even Crameri. The Bont will get as much midfield time as his body can handle.
Macrae will attract the tag more often than not.

Minson has a mortgage on the number one ruck spot, and Boyd can play back up so the chances of Campbell and Cordy getting games has decreased again. They still have time on their side.

Crameri and Stringer will immediately benefit from the arrival of Big Boyd. There's plenty of opportunity for the likes of Dickson, Grant, Hunter and Honey to really cement a spot in the best 22. None are absolute locks at this stage, except maybe Grant if he is fit in 2015. Cordy, Campbell and Roberts are a chance to replace a small if required for team balance.

I'd say the best 18 is set, but all spots ripe for the picking on the bench. The list is super young and lacks quality depth at this point. A couple of injuries and we're even more screwed. I'll be keeping an eye on the draftees from a SC perspective. None will be priced any higher than 123K either, and it is likely that at least one draftee or rookie will line up in round 1.

The Bonts is alright  8)

But I can see Biggs pushing out Jong and Honeychurch out of that Interchange pretty easily. He is a pretty good player.

He's going to St.Kilda

Also Biggs should easily get games considering he was getting 20+ disposals pretty easily in finals and for Sydney

Yeah, he's probably ahead of Honey and Hunter.

Listening to Jason McCartney, it sounds like we recruited Biggs for his tagging ability. He might free up Wallis.

Update after the preseason training so far

B: Johannisen, Roughead, Murphy
HB: Biggs, Morris, Picken
C: Hrovat, Wallis, Macrae
HF: Hunter, Redpath, Bontempelli
F: Stringer, Boyd, Dahlhaus
R: Minson, Liberatore, Boyd
I: Crameri, Stevens, Wood, Daniel

Obviously Crameri is best 18 but he's been training more as a midfielder and Redpath has shed some kgs and looks like a completely different player. Stringer also training as a mid most of the time and dominating.

Boyd can play back up ruck if we go with this. Campbell might come in for Redpath based on form, or Crameri to CHF and Hamling/Talia (Hamling ahead at the moment) in for Redpath if we need another tall down back.

Daniel ;D

We need him with the game plan we have been training. His almost flawless DE and tank will be important. Looks like we'll be the #1 ranked team for playing on after a mark and can't afford turnovers if that's how we are planning on attacking things.
